As the LA Kings playoff dream slip they consider a trade sending Drew Doughty to Toronto for a package that COULD include " Kapenen, Dermitt, Brown and a First round pick".

1.) 21 Jan 2018 14:16:37
They can keep him if that's what you are offering them.

A year and a half later the Leafs won't be able to afford what Drew will want for a new contract. 10 M.

Yet they give up a young NHL ready RW, a young promising LHD, a young stellar two way RW, and a 1st.

Not a chance for a year and a half rental they won't be able to extend.

I'd rather keep the youngsters.

2.) 21 Jan 2018 14:46:04
The most important thing during the cap era is having enough organizational depth so when the big contracts come they have a lot of cheap young players to take up roster spots. When Doughty comes up for a new contract there is no way the Leafs can afford that unless they move Nylander/ Marner.

3.) 21 Jan 2018 17:02:11
Why waste assets when they can just wait until he becomes RFA and then take a run at him if his asking price fits with what the organization can afford?

4.) 21 Jan 2018 21:52:13
Would rather keep the prospects and try to sign Carlson in the offseason.

Heard around the combine that the Leafs kicking tires on Vlasic from San Jose.

1.) 11 Jun 2017 14:41:25
Are you Ecklund?

2.) 11 Jun 2017 15:53:30
You heard around the combine did you? Give it a rest. First, you were not at the combine. Second, there is a cone of silence around the Leafs and real insiders aren't getting information so a nobody like you defnitely isn't.

And kudos to Dbone - that is the most appropriate response to this ridiculousness.

3.) 11 Jun 2017 19:49:32
Don't have a lot of good things to say about most of Dbones thoughts/ comments but have to hand it to him on that one . lol.

The Leafs will land Sam Vatenen from Ducks at the draft and the cost is a second and braco.

1.) 10 Jun 2017 06:30:53
While I am not a fan of Vatanen nor do I think he is the proper fit, I would be fine with that cost.

2.) 10 Jun 2017 14:55:40
Vatanen is the logical choice for cap reasons. The Ducks have no space.

Your deal only proceeds if there is a buyout of Bieksa or he is traded. A buyout is the full 100% of the cap space for him and it's NOT spread out over 2 years (only the salary is) . The Ducks will not go this way unless they absolutely have to, as it makes zero sense given they are cap stuck.

Your deal should include Bieksa. They will get him to waive, especially if it's a good team. He will get a pivotal role here. If he doesn't want to stay in the east, a trade can be easily made.

If he gets moved to the Leafs, he will again waive, so the Leafs can protect Vatanen. If he doesn't get drafted - great! If he does - great. For Bieksa who's built a house near LA; Vegas is not all that bad.

So taking your original deal:

It's going to cost the Ducks for Bieksa (arguably a 2nd as it is a big favour), so my argument is this;

TOR: Bracco (exempt), 2nd; -Bieksa

ANA: Vatanen; Sam Steel (exempt) ;

Bieksa goes as a negative to the Leafs side of the equation as they would normally never sign or trade for him.
I chose to add Steel who was picked 30th OA and that's practically a 2nd or close enough considering they fleeced us on two goalies we sent their way.

Wouldn't you like to see a line of Brooks, Steel and Marner.

The Leafs are taking on 8.875M (Bracco and Steel offset) . In a cap world; that is a huge favour as well, given the Ducks cap status.

You heard it here. Doughty destine to Leafs. Reilly part of L.A package but deal could get bigger if Las Vagas enter the fold.

1.) 04 Jun 2017 20:49:18
No way Riley headed to LA.

2.) 05 Jun 2017 15:22:59
So the Leafs need D and you have them trading their best D-man? Stick to NHL '16.

3.) 05 Jun 2017 17:06:01
Give your head a shake.

Even as bad as they are, the Maple Leafs will still have a hard time finishing in the bottom 5 this season. So either go hard after the players you need to make a playoff run or trade serious assets and ensure a bottom 5 finish. I propose these options.
#1 Carolina, Eric Staal
Leafs, Kadri & Franson
#2 Edmonton Eberle, 1st round pick 2015
Leafs, Franson, Holzer, Biggs & Lupul
#3 Make these players available now for prospects and picks.
Lupul, Phaneuf, Franson, Kadri,

Build around these. Kessel, JVR, Percy, Gardiner, Reilly,

1.) I believe to get Eric Staal, Jordan will have to be included in the deal?

You never trade generational players for good players. Toronto has 1 untouchable players Mathew. 1 almost untouchable Anderson. 3 highly unlikely to move Marner Nylander and Reilly then everyone else. You might get a decent package for JVR but why move him. Everyone else would get little return on the're own. Jack Johnson 31 and one year left would be an upgrade on Polak so why not offer him and Leivo.

I like the idea but unless Montreal tear it down weber will not be the first player dealt.

Ok so landeskog is a big risk big reward type but I think no way leafs offer a first rounder for anyone.
