I know kapenen and leivo would qualify for being high end players but its worth a shot

Why do you want to trade for the worst Dman in the NHL right now.
-38 as of last night. That's disturbing, even for the Yotes.
He makes Gardiner look like a stalwart dMan.

he would play a lot better on the leafs
I know his stats aren't great but he is a quality top 4 defenseman
way better than jake gardiner.

His stats are about the worst in history for a number 1 Dman on a team.
-38, while everyone else on the team is -24 or above. And he has significant negative numbers every single year for the last 5 years.
These type of Dmen are the worst; overpaid, incompetent defenders, that destroy team's hopes. Karlsson is another one, although his offense can really offset his liabilities.
And no; he would not play any better on the Leafs. You are not going to change a player's habits this late in his career.

I think severson is the kind of dman we need
hes only 23 years old so he can grow and develop with our team the timeline fits
he signed to a 6 year deal at 4.2 m a season which for a top 4 dman is fairly good.
lastly he's right handed shot.
