Draft Day Trade

Stl

Johnsson
Liljegren
2rd pick

Tor

Pieterangleo and signs 7yr 8-9mil

leafs win the cup

1.) 07 Mar 2020 09:23:47
Rather just wait and sign Pietrangelo outright at this point. Even if it costs an extra million or two. No sense chasing him. We just end up overpaying St. Louis to acquire his rights only to have to overpay greedy Pietrangelo.

2.) 07 Mar 2020 14:16:30
Agreed. If STL does not sign him he will wait and go to UFA status. If the Leafs want to sign him, they likely have to trade 2 of Johnsson, Kapanen and Kerfoot.

3.) 07 Mar 2020 18:44:42
he's not coming to the Leafs if the cap goes up. he will stay in ST-louis. need to focus on either Manson or Doughty. or someone else. also need to find more players who have grit and work hard like Hyman that aren't afraid to go to the net and battle for the puck.

4.) 07 Mar 2020 19:31:21
Petro would be a fine addition but I don't see it. He is probably looking at 10+ and Dubas just can't have another guy making that much.

5.) 08 Mar 2020 12:46:15
Not unless Marner is traded elsewhere to clear space. Why trade when u can sign Petro as a UFA.

1.) 16 Jan 2020 13:04:32
At least we would have a defenseman signed past next year. I guess if he didn’t work out, we could expose him at the end of next year. There’s a very good chance that Seattle would take him. If not, I think we can buy him out? How does that work though? Buying out a contract that has been retained by another team? Does the other team have their half bought out too?

2.) 16 Jan 2020 15:21:25
I don't even want Subban. He seems disinterested in hockey these days and is a huge distraction. He is also a has been these days. Not worth it.

3.) 16 Jan 2020 16:28:05
Subban is a distraction wherever he goes, he was a good player in Montreal and maybe a year in Nashville, now all I see a big shot off the point, too slow for todays game.

4.) 16 Jan 2020 18:59:30
So I looked into it. For anyone that cares to know, the answer is YES, you can buyout a contract which involves retained salary from a previous transaction. Both teams have to perform the buyout calculations and spread the salary out over the appropriate term.

So if Arizona were to buyout Kessel this summer, Leafs should have him on the books for $1.1M for the next two year, and then for only $50,000 the final two years. (Kessel also has signing bonuses, which makes his contract extra special when it comes to buying him out) .

5.) 17 Jan 2020 02:45:44
Never seen a situation like that before but good info LeafsGm.

6.) 17 Jan 2020 09:36:32
I would try to add Kapanen and get Coleman. But like the idea of bringing in a veteran NHL defenseman. The contract is easy to handle sine both Sandin and Liligren are on ELC.

Leafs trade

Kapenen
Brown

Oilers trade

Larsson
Kassian

leafs win the cup

1.) 11 May 2019 06:32:56
Wouldn't mind that trade, don't know though the oilers would do it, then again, they are desperate for a change and Brown and Mc have previous chemistry so to make CM happy, that is a good thing. Kapanen himself is one of the few players who could actually keep up to Connor so I guess there are some plus sides to it.

I think though Edmonton themselves are also in the hunt for D men so they may be careful when trading a D man.

Saying that though, . I would like Dubas to have a sit down with Mike B and see if somehow we could snag
Hitchcock, then let DJ Smith go. Hitch also did well with kassian and proved he was tameable.

2.) 11 May 2019 11:58:13
It’s no big secret that Oiler’s are looking for RW and have interest in Brown. Kapanen is obviously a good player and his speed would suit Edmonton’s style (I think) . Larsson is a beast. A real heavy hitter like him would be welcome on the team. Edmonton is overflowing in defensemen. Larsson is their best though. They may not want to trade him. I don’t know what the mind set of the new GM is going to be. But if he wants to make his mark on the team, undoing the Larsson trade would be the way to do it.

Larsson for Kapanen I’m all for. Would rather keep Brown than trade him for Kassian though.

Leafs trade

Matthews
Nylander
Johnsson
Dermott
Liljergen
Sparks

Oilers trade

McDavid
Lucic

leafs win the cup

1.) 06 May 2019 16:51:14
We all know this ain't happening.

2.) 07 May 2019 04:14:52
I’d rather just keep all our guys.

McDavid isn’t much better than Marner, if at all. But, as Matthews is center, and was also picked first overall, he tends to be the head-to-head comparisonk. And again, you got to think in an 82 game season with Matthews uninjured, McDavid is simply not that much better than Matthews either.

Win or lose, McDavid pulls in a crowd and sells a lot of Jersey’s and other merchandise. He is a very valuable asset both on and off the ice. He will play his heart out brining in all kinds of individual awards, while the team sits in mediocrity.

3.) 07 May 2019 12:15:03
McDavid is better, but it's nonsense to think the Leafs and Oilers would trade their 1st overall picks. It just does not make any sense at all. Please stop these types of posts.

Lafreniere Matthews Marner
Robertson Tavares Nylander
Hyman Kerfoot Kapenen
Clifford Spezza Engvall
Brooks Barabanov

leafs win the cup

1.) 28 Jun 2020 20:53:28
I don’t think Clifford will re-sign, and Spezza it depends if the leafs want him or a guy like Brooks or Gauthier on the 4th line.

24 Mar 2020 08:25:47
Now that CHL is canceled

Can NICK ROBERTSON play
For the leafs this year?

If NHL comes back

Hyman Matthews Marner
Robertson Tavares Nylander
Mikheyev Kerfoot Kapenen
Clifford Spezza Engvall

Rielly Barrie
Muzzin Holl
Dermott Ceci

leafs win the cup

1.) 24 Mar 2020 14:19:28
If NHL comes back I imagine that everyone will play again but that's one of those unknowns as season length, and timing is slightly different across different leagues.

I doubt Robertson plays for the leafs though as trade deadline has passed.

2.) 24 Mar 2020 19:51:31
I think you can still bring guys up and down from the AHL after deadline, but I doubt you can bring them from junior to NHL. I'm not sure though. I know there is no roster size limit and no cap in the playoffs. But I don't know about calling up players from anywhere other than AHL. In any case, without him having played against adults yet, I can't see Leafs calling him up to NHL until they at least get a look at him in training camp.

3.) 25 Mar 2020 00:25:19
Start the Robertson over hype lol. Everywhere I go people have him playing beside Tavares next year or on Mathews wing without ever even playing AHL hockey. He's the best prospect we have but just like I kept saying about Liljigren and Sandin they aren't ready for that kind of role yet.

4.) 25 Mar 2020 22:53:35
Where does Robertson play best year is the question though. Sending him back to junior will probably hurt his development. He has nothing left to prove there. And because of age restrictions, he can't play AHL. Which means he either makes the Leafs, or perhaps goes overseas? If he can't make the Leafs in any meaningful way, I think going to play in Sweden or so where like that would be the best option for him. He needs to be playing against professional adult players. Not 15 year old kids in junior that he can just skate through and score every time.

What do you think? Europe or KHL for a year?

5.) 26 Mar 2020 13:39:33
If I was Robertson I would definitely spend a year in Sweden if given the chance.

Trade Bait

Bracco
Timashov
Ceci
Hurper
Petan
2rd draft pick

*Johsson/Kapenen*

*only get traded in Blockbuster trade

So let's be honest if leafs don't trade johnsson or kappy there is no deals out there

leafs win the cup

1.) 10 Jan 2020 07:30:57
There are some deals. Just not the ones we like to post on here lol. I guarenteed you Bracco+ something small could get Wayne Simmonds. He looks like poo. Could probably get Subban for Ceci if they didn't have to retain as well just to take the cap dump. Ok maybe that's an exaggeration lol. Point is though, we like to post the Mathews for Mcdavid trades. Not happening most likely. Another Muzzin trade or possibly Gorgiev.

2.) 12 Jan 2020 00:04:55
Realistically, yes, these guys are the guys that will be traded. But it’s still fun to post Marner and Matthews trades. The thing is, Dubas’ job is to ice the best team possible at all times. Which means that he has to be willing to explore all options. We can never know for sure what gm’s talk about, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they talk about the big trades like we do too. They have to. It’s their job. Of course, the trade value of guys like Matthews and Marner is so high though that these trades rarely take place. But you can be sure that they get brought up. There is no doubt about it in my mind anyway. How could they not? It’s their job as GM to explore every possibility. Dubas probably has hundreds of offers on the tBle at all times. But 99% of them are not reasonable and would never see the light of day.

Kapanen and Johnsson are our best non-core players, which is why I too feel they will both be traddd at some point. If Kapanen goes this year even I wouldn’t be surprised. He’s tops on my most likely to be traded list.

Zaitsev wants to be traded

But what if he wants to go back to the KHL

Will the leafs be off the hook
cap wise?

leafs win the cup

1.) 01 Jun 2019 14:47:19
Yup! No salary retained.

2.) 03 Jun 2019 10:20:17
Zaitsev making his trade demands public is stupid. Now Leafs have no leverage. Not like they had a lot before. But going public let's everyone know he wants out and Leafs will be hoping to dump him. The return will be less.

I read somewhere that the Zaitsev signing is arguably the European signing that worked out best. I don’t see how that’s possible. I get that there has been a lot of players come over and couldn’t handle it, but Zaitsev didn’t really work out either. So if the Zaitsev signing is best ever, maybe it would be wise to not bother signing anyone from overseas?

I bring this up because of the Lindholm and Mikheyev signings. What’s the point? At least we got Petan for Lindholm, so that might have worked out well. Can’t see the same thing happening with Mikheyev?

Thoughts anyone? Was Zaitsev really the best European signing ever? Who would be better? Personally I think Sergei Makarov was the best ever.

3.) 03 Jun 2019 17:15:52
Leafs GM

What return did you think he was going to get. Honestly you are probably going to have to retain or add something to him for a trade. Unless you were offered like a 6th or 7th. That 4.5 for 5 years is tough to swallow for a 3rd line dman.
