You would need a deal in place to move Miller and Burrows to a third team for picks or prospects. Otherwise the Leafs do not need to do anything like this.
The Leafs don't need either one. Traded players with 1 year left tend not to play very well (see Laich, Gagner, Michalek for recent examples).
I'm just hoping the Islanders are ready for another 1 for 5 deal like last year. The prospects will be better for them this year.

I'm pretty sure Sam Carrick isn't in the Leafs organization anymore and seems like TOR is offering a lot of their future for perhaps a short-term gain with this suggestion.

Reason for trading Giordano: He's 32 years old. A cap hit of 6.75 M until 2022. YES! 2022!
It's all going to come crashing down for him soon.
Why the hell would a rebuilding team like the Leafs need him, or even want him? They don't need LW Poirier either, they have more than enough LW prospects.
Why would they give away a boat load of younger and better players for an old fart and a never has been?

He's one of their best defenders whose still producing at a high level and a pretty decent leader by all accounts. you want to get rid of him because it's all going to come crashing down on him soon?. can't run your team with all snot nosed 18 year olds dude. if it's me I don't trade him. that's my point.

You asked for a valid reason and you got it. I think it will be a steady decline for him starting this year.
What I wrote says that the Leafs don't want him at that age, term and that price. Zero need to make that trade. The Leafs won't even make the playoffs for 2 or 3 years. So when they are ready to challenge, he'll be how old? Not a good strategy.
There will be better options for the Leafs as they go. They do not have to give up so much youth and talent for a player that will not mean that much to the quest.
Rebuild not re-tool.

I agree the Leafs have no interest but "thinking" a player is going to steadily decline from here on in is not a solid reason for your argument. good try though. next time flip a coin and save us the rhetoric.
