Everyone in the league sees how he gets burned every time someone goes near him .
He will be expecting a pay day larger than he deserves
Therefor, he has a negative value . Hence why you need to package him with someone and take a bit of a loss
It’s what you need to do to get rid of the garbage

I predict Gardiner will go before the deadline for the maximum worth the Leafs can get for him. The Leafs can't afford his price increase for what he brings, and there are already good prospects to replace him.
Sucks that we let JVR, Bozak, and Leo walk for nothing.
That's arguably, a decent 1st, a late 1st/ early second and a second plus some mid prospects not in out system now; all just to let the 3 play the season out?
Maybe our new GM will not make that mistake now that he's in charge.
Then, almost everyone will be happy.

In all honesty gardiner is considered a high B tier defenseman. Come trade deadline your looking at a haul similar to what Tampa paid for mcD last year. Just no salary dump with it. So a 1st and a skilled echl prospect is likely the return to a offensively challenged team, potentially Anaheim who need a boost on the left side D, and them with power on gardeners right side compliment each other.

I think Marleau just isn't the guy the Leafs need with Matthews and Nylander. We'll see how it shakes out but in the interest of remaining physical in the playoffs, Kadri or Kapanen or even Hyman would all be better choices than Marleau on that Matthews line.

Maybe we need to look at this a bit different now .
How about we discuss what signing Gardiner while his value is at an all time low?
Maybe sign him for 6 years, $850,000 per .
That’s value . keep him as #6 D, playing PP and about 3-5 min per game Even strength
Maximize his output, minimize his mistakes.

Leivo has looked pretty good playing the half wall on the PP tbh, better than Ennis on the other half wall.
From high to low:
Reilly-Marner-Matthews-Kadri-Tavares
Gardiner-Leivo-Ennis-Johnsson-Marleau
Brown took Johnsson's spot in the slot when Gauthier moved into the lineup. And if Willy Cheeseburger comes back, he would slot into one of the half wall spots on that second PP unit.
But yeah, Leivo's looked good on the PP. I would replace Ennis before Leivo on PP.

It just looks like Leivo has stone hands . no abitly to shoot or pass, but I guess there is more to it than shooting g and passing (. I guess .? )

Babs has been using Kapanen right after the PP to try and prevent a momentum swing. It's been working really well so far, i think the shift has been Hyman-Lindholm-Kappy. And they've been great at smothering the other team's rested top line.
And yeah Leivo is weird. He seems to move well with the puck on the wall, but that group just hasn't generated many chances. I'd like to see Kadri in there and maybe Brown in the slot on the first unit, Brown can be fairly opportunistic as a goal scorer and i could see teams falling asleep on him.

Scratch that Kadri thing. The Wings tried hard to take the half wall away, and Kadri was awesome as a bailout option to reset the structure and regain advantage. No PP changes please.

We sure could have used Mr. Game 7 in the series against Boston last year. Williams is one of the best clutch players of all times and was at one point my favourite player in the league. He’s make a good ringer for the year if we could get him for the right price.

Leivo has no ability to finish . he is really bad (I know he has 4 goals . everyone will get a few each year)
He works pretty hard but is just a big sloth. If he at least played physical I could see a tile for him .
He’s got to be traded once Matthews and Nylander come back .
Package him with Gardiner and a 1st
What do you guys think you could get for that package?

Reeves would bring grit. There is no doubt about it. there wouldn’t be a question about “if†he will be successful and fit . He will . It’s what they need.
Ideally this need is filled by a acquiring a bruising D man . wait and see approach on if/ when they do this . Either way, adding reeves (or this type player ) would be great!

And as always when I post, I take a minute to remind everyone that Gardiner is brutal and Leivo is just awe full . trade them both to anyone for anything . can’t and won’t make he team any worse . Bring up any D from the system and you may lose a handful of goals for from Gardiner but you save on the defensive pre pubescent lapses
. and Leivo just can’t do it at this level, might as well get something while he still has some value (no idea why he has value, I just hear people on here mentioning him in trades so I guess people see something .
Would really be interested to hear specifics of why any of this is wrong .

When you say “his defensive issues†. do you mean that he doesn’t understand the basics of how to play defence?
Like how any skater can go right by him on the boards because rather than play them into the boards (physical) he just waves his stick at the puck (soft) ? I’m not saying he needs to pound the guy into the boards, just angle him into the boards . it’s so simple . When you do this, it will slow anyone down . doesn’t matter who they are or what type of move they put on him . He will be slowed down. That’s the way it works .
Watch for it tonight . guarantee guys go right by him on the boards a few times .
