LEAFS TRADE: kapenin + bozak and marchenko

FOR: Matt duchene

Luca

1.) 19 Feb 2017 04:35:10
Veteran players like JVR and Bozak the coldorado don't want and hold Kapanan move Leipsic.

LEAFS TRADE: bracco + polak + 2017 1st round pick

COLARADO GIVES US: Tyson barrie

Luca

1.) 25 Jan 2017 04:34:03
AVS would want more

2.) 25 Jan 2017 20:10:04
avs will want more and barrie isn't worth what they're asking.

3.) 26 Jan 2017 03:53:38
There was just a trade that was dermott, Bracco and a 1st for Barrie. GOATSON you said that trade was an over payment for the leafs. At this point in their careers, polak is more valuable than dermott. Yet, now it's not enough from leafs? I agree with you now and everything but. that's a little contradictory don't you think?

If we want Barrie we are giving up a lot more than that. Just imagine what you would want for Reilly.

18 Jan 2017 05:17:26
If they do sell JVR somewhere it will probably be to Anaheim.

TOR TRADES: JVR+ polak and maybe bracco

ANAHIM GIVES US: hampus lindholm

I can see this happening because if anahim wants to make it to the playoffs we can give them one of the best LW in the league and give them a prospect and a strong defenseman

Luca

1.) 18 Jan 2017 07:37:54
Leafs have the pieces to get whatever player they want in trade. It's a question of would it be wise to trade a Bracco could you trade Leipsic in that package instead.

2.) 18 Jan 2017 13:04:11
@davidmackin - You would rather trade a prospect who's averaging a point per game in the AHL and plays a pest over keeping a player who is promising but still very unproven in anything other than junior. Bracco will never be a centre in the NHL and we have lots of rookies on the right side, I would say whatever package Toronto trades should include Bracco if the package coming back is truly worth it of course, not Leipsic.

3.) 18 Jan 2017 13:40:20
I think Bracco has more upside to be honest. And I don't see how Leipsic fits in with these group of guys that are on leafs now. Leipsic is ready now he cracks top 9 somewhere next season. Do you see him on leafs I just don't.

4.) 18 Jan 2017 13:42:13
It's tough call on Leipsic. Do you see both him and Kapanan cracking leafs roster next season?

5.) 18 Jan 2017 14:04:18
Bracco didn't look overwhelming at the junior tournament this year. and leipsic is a left handed left wing, while kapanen shoots right and plays both wings in the ahl. Rw is already crowded on the leafs and babs likes the guys to play their strong sides. Looks to me like leipsic has a better chance of moving up from the marlies. just my opinion.

6.) 18 Jan 2017 14:19:51
It's tough to see how it plays out. Leivo has same size as JVR. Can leafs add another very small forward. Time will tell I guess.

7.) 18 Jan 2017 21:59:29
No we don't need any more LHD we need more top RHD

8.) 19 Jan 2017 06:16:54
What about since we make trades with anhiem so frequently
Anaheim jvr kapanen
Toronto Shea Theodore nick Ritchie and 2018 second

17 Jan 2017 18:36:13
The leafs are just going to resign JVR

Luca

1.) 17 Jan 2017 18:45:19
I'm starting to agree with that. They can afford his 6-6.5 a year even with our entry levels getting their raises. We COULD trade him for a top 3 dman but then we'd have another hole to fill in left wing anyways.

2.) 17 Jan 2017 18:58:32
He'll sign for a discount price like Kadri did. that's my feeling anyways

3.) 17 Jan 2017 19:28:20
So now everyone thinks JVR is going to be resigned by the Leafs because you read a Damien Cox piece for the Toronto Star? If we don't package him with something else to get back a defenceman now at the deadline he'll be gone by the summer for sure. Book it.

4.) 17 Jan 2017 20:06:59
Agree with Jimmy, it's happening.

5.) 17 Jan 2017 21:11:06
Never read no Damien Cox report just my feeling on the situtaion. We need good vets too help the youth along. What's one top 4 D really going to do for the leafs anyways? Maybe help a little but not much. Groom the young d we have now to become what they can. Dermott anf Neilson have potential to be good defencemen. Trading JVR only leaves another hole to fill. My two cents

6.) 17 Jan 2017 21:33:21
I have no idea what report you're referring too. JVR is a top ten LW in the league, has been very consistent through out his career and just entered his prime. Championship teams are not made up of all young players. But, even if they were. he's only 27. A whole year older than kadri and Gardiner. The only reason I see him being traded is if we sign Shattenkirk (or another top dman worth big bucks) . Then we couldn't afford him.

7.) 17 Jan 2017 21:33:38
JVR still has next year on his deal at a very reasonable $4.25 million cap hit

8.) 17 Jan 2017 21:34:35
And Jimmy, the only reason you think he's being traded is because that's what the media told you. You must follow bob Mckenzie instead of cox.

9.) 17 Jan 2017 21:41:20
Not a top 4 D, the leafs could package JVR to go after a top pairing RHD like Hamilton or a future piece like Trouba or Dumba. The point is between now and the draft, the leafs will land one of those probable defenseman for a lower price due to Expansion. So JVR is a very valuable asset especially if we retain 50% of his contract (2.2 Million roughly)

10.) 17 Jan 2017 21:53:01
BigWilly, JVR will not fetch any of those dmen unless we are sending a top prospect or pick as well. If Hall gets your Larsson than what does JVR get?

11.) 17 Jan 2017 21:54:47
Tmlforlife, if JVR get traded it would be this year. He's less valuable next year because his contract is ending and he'd only be seen as a rental.

12.) 17 Jan 2017 22:50:51
Dear Damian cox

He states leafs would need to find replacement for JVR nonsense. They have big body leivo and he has not been given chance and they have highly skilled playmaker Leipsic. The jury is out if they move him or not it could disrupt the young guys. Is 6 years at 6 million something you want to pay JVR

I say no what u guys say 6 years 6 million

13.) 18 Jan 2017 00:02:01
I'd prefer a 4 or 5 year but, he'll likely be looking for around what you're saying, David. Maybe even more. I'm with Puck it and hope he sticks at 6 mill and does 5 years like Kadri and Reilly.

14.) 18 Jan 2017 00:21:59
JVR will sign a 6-7 M extension for 4-6 years. The youngsters will get bridge deals for healthy, but not unreasonable sums, extending them past or close to the end of JVR's contract.

And by the time that becomes an issue; Horton's contract will be off the books as well.

Almost 30 M or more will come off the payroll by the time JVR starts his next contract. And a lot of that is currently dead salary.

By the time the kids are done their bridge deal Horton's contract will be gone as well, and just about all of the 1.2 M hot dog stench. It will be a cap of fresh air.

The Leafs will have no problem signing JVR to an extension. He just needs to be reasonable. Get a value from his agent before the deadline.

If excessive; trade him and get what you can at the deadline. No need to be held for ransom.

Get young talent only back. Any picks obtained, can be for later years in order to keep a steady influx of prospects.

The rebuild only just got started. Trading to win now will only hurt the longevity of contending.

15.) 18 Jan 2017 05:13:38
Lab 16

Pick your poison if you bridge marner and Mathews you in same spot Canadians were with subban after bridge they will want max money 10 million each. So better extend them longer next contract for 7 million each. Next contract 5 years between 7 and 8 million each they won't sign more than 5 years.

16.) 18 Jan 2017 09:23:06
See this is what I miss about this site. Everyone has a cool opinion about the subject. I love JVR always have. However I'm not extending him for 6 plus mil per season instead I would trade him on a package to get a number 3 or 4 dman then sign Shattenkirk if I could. Let's face it going forward we're going to need at least another 2 decent defenceman to really content in a couple of years. It's all about asset management.

Spend your 7 mil or so in this case on a high end dman in Shattenkirk instead of a left winger which we have more of. Just my opinion fellas but make no mistake he's gone in the summer at the latest

17.) 18 Jan 2017 13:06:08
@ David

Kadri got a 2 year bridge deal @ 2.9M, 1yr @ 4.1M; proved his worth under Babs, and then signed for 6 years @ 4.5 M.

Same principle will apply to the kids only higher numbers. Only Matthews and to some degree Marner will garner more. Matthews amount might be tied to what the idiots in Oil town are going to give McJesus.

Here in Hog Town; we have Lou. My bet is that all deals will be reasonable and to the benefit of the team.

Even if Matthews and Marner get 10 M each for 8 years; None of us will be complaining. The rest of the talent is not on the same level and will be paid less or traded.

Now for some arithemtic:

The extension:
Add 19 + 8 = 27 Hmmm. That number is familiar? Isn't it? Then they will want even more Max or leave. 7M*8 + 10M*7 = 126M. But you risk them leaving for elsewhere for 10M or so at free agency.

The bridge:
Add 19 + 5 + 8 = 32 Hmmm. End of peak years and have stayed with the team. 5M*5 (still RFA at end) + 8*10M = 105M

If you like; add to the bridge 2M each year and you still only get 115M. And no risk of free agency until they are 32 years old and you save money.

The point isn't just money, it's about keeping them Toronto Maple Leafs.
This is what the Oilers need to do with McJesus; or he will walk; just like Taveras next year.

toronto trades: bracco+ corrado+ 3rd round pick

calgary gives us: dougie hamilton

Luca

1.) 17 Jan 2017 00:05:41
Calgary gives us an earful for proposing this!

2.) 17 Jan 2017 00:26:28
Lol I wish Brian Burke could see this so he could roast you on National Television

3.) 17 Jan 2017 01:17:38
Not even close for Hamilton

4.) 17 Jan 2017 03:01:52
Calgary laughs and hangs up the phone with that offer

5.) 17 Jan 2017 12:28:53
Try Kadri, Gardiner and a 2017 1st Rd pick for Dougie Hamilton. That is 3 1st Rd picks (former and future) for Hamilton.

6.) 18 Jan 2017 06:42:38
Enough, Enouphaneuf. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. You honestly believe Hamilton is worth all that? His bid was insaulting low for Hamilton, your bid would likely fetch any player in the NHL not named Crosby, Ovi or Mcdavid. IF Calgary ever wanted to trade him. say he has personal issues with coaching and wants a trade. Calgary would take Gardiner and a 1st then laugh all the way to the bank. I have never been a Gardiner fan but he's putting up impressive stats and seriously driving possession.

With the new signing of alexey marchenko the leafs are probably going to put him where marincin is because marincin takes to many penalties in games. The leafs are probably just going to play the season through and then do something in the draft.

Luca

1.) 05 Feb 2017 22:04:49
Marchenko is RHD, Marincin is LHD. For Marchenko to play one of Zaitsev, Carrick or Polak won't play. He's a replacement for Polak. Much the same as Corrado was just a little more experienced.

31 Jan 2017 02:48:57
Do u guys think the leafs can get Tyson Barrie, Matt duchane, or Tavares

Luca

1.) 31 Jan 2017 03:02:37
I would say yes to Duchene and Barrie but no to Tavares. The leafs could get him but not for the price that the trades on hear are offering. They all want good players without giving up good players. So it is possible but no leaf fan is willing to give up fair value and they over value most of the leafs players so in reality yes on this site no.

2.) 31 Jan 2017 11:23:09
New York City is special place and with islanders playing in MSG I'm sure Tavaris wants to stay in New York.

3.) 31 Jan 2017 11:44:20
David:

Islanders play in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Rangers play in the MSG. The Islanders are considering a new place in Queens.

31 Jan 2017 02:41:29
Do you think the leafs might get Nolan Patrick or nico hischer

Luca

1.) 31 Jan 2017 03:03:02
No, they won't finish low enough and won't trade up

2.) 01 Feb 2017 00:17:27
They very well could trade up. Not for Nolan tho. For a dman

3.) 01 Feb 2017 10:54:43
No way! Matthews is our franchise player anyway and we are looking dangerous we don't need either of those two

4.) 03 Feb 2017 00:15:51
Just how many franchise type players do you think you can fit under the cap?

22 Jan 2017 20:19:19
Leafs have to go for tyson Barrie

Luca

1.) 23 Jan 2017 12:33:24
Have to go where?

The Av's have said they won't trade him and are shopping their forwards.

20 Jan 2017 20:46:05
The leafs need defensemen not forwards there number 1 main player there going after is probably Lindholm from the ducks cause they were very interested in him. The secound defensemen we could trade for is Tyson Barrie from Colorado
