i feel that Toronto and Winnipeg could be good trade partners and maybe they could pull off a blockbuster with each other...leafs need top defenceman and a backup goalie and the jets need 3rd line center....now I don't know if i'm any good at making trade proposals but could the leafs go after both myers and trouba and they could go after kadri and johnsson as the main players.and maybe picks too or prospects...im going to lay something out>>>> so know need to be criticize.

to Winnipeg: kadri,zaitsev(maybe retain 500k),johnsson and a 3rd or 4th.

to Toronto:myers,trouba and comrie.

now I don't know who adds or if the money balances out after everyone contracts or extensions are tookin care of and put in place but I think it would solve problems for both teams cause winnipegs loaded with defenceman and there getting one back in the trade anyways so its like losing only 1.....all we would need is a 4th line center after all thta which brings me to another trade connor brown for luke Glendening.

No reason for the Jets to take Kadri and Zaitzev who the Leafs are trying to dump anyway.

2.) 01 Jun 2019 18:31:13
Myers is UFA, so no need to trade for him. Johnsson is a winger so the Jets don't need him at all. Zaitsev is a cap dump, so the Jets don't want him. Kadri is A 3C at best and would not fit with Ehlers and Laine, so the Jets wouldn't want him. See the proposal above this one for a possible option that might at least get some notice from the Jets.

To Toronto: Duncan Keith

To hawks: Nathan Horton
Andreas Johnnsson
2019 1st
Maybe another late
Pick.

I think it could be a descent trade maybe just what the leafs need on back end to push them over the top and by giving them Horton it leaves us with cap space or equals out and good for the short term for leafs...might hurt us last Couple years but we may have something to show for it...Blackhawks in the long term for getting rid of Keith's contract and Johnnsson and a first should be good...maybe another late pick

Awful. again, Horton can be put on LTIR so his cap doesn’t matter. Keith is washed up and overpaid.

2.) 04 Jan 2019 18:49:13
Leafs can't afford him maybe leafs take him for them 25% retained and chicago and leafs swap firsts.

3.) 04 Jan 2019 23:12:00
Keith still has value. And his contract is attractive to a low budget team. I’m not sure Leafs are the best destination for him to finish his career. He may just retire rather than accept a trade to a non-competitive team. It’s shocking how fast his career fell apart. It’s always a little sad to see a guy like Keith try to drag out his career to the bitter end. I was reading an article not so long ago about this. See it so often: Jagr, Chelios, even Gretzky. These guys just can’t let go. Drag it out to the bitter end until they are forced to hang up the skates. The author of the article felt it eventually leaves a bit of a stain on an otherwise spectacular career. I guess if that was me, I might do the same thing though. The love of the game is what these guys live for.

At the deadline...patrick marleau and a3rd to the wings for nik kronwall....i think the wings Will go for it...they get a 3rd round for taking marleau on for a year plus his services and Toronto Gets kronwall for the rest of season then money off the books...kronwall Can retire afterwords.....wings won't Be good for another 2plus years..so maybe they do it...i guess kronwall Can go for it one last time.

1.) 02 Dec 2018 02:53:12
Keonwall has enough cups. It’s Marleau’s turn.

2.) 02 Dec 2018 03:09:33
Why would marleau waive his ntc to go to a team that might make the playoff from a team that is a cup contender.

3.) 02 Dec 2018 03:30:17
I love LeafsGM response. awesome. I'm speechless

Or shall I say typeless.

4.) 02 Dec 2018 06:10:19
Marley won't accept that trade.

I know people are going to think I'm crazy and I know fans from both these teams are going to be upset if either one of these players gets traded but hear me out...the trade is going to be between Toronto and l.a and I don't know what the value for each is going to be even tho it should go in our favour do to age but who knows...the key players being marner for doughty..
L.a has a habit of getting players from London Toronto area...Ontario boys..so why not swap...cause doughty is half way into his career why not come home for a cup...which I'm sure would be his dream...I know it would be unfair to marner and it would be his dream also but they always respect the elders...and marner could go live in l.a...and enjoy his age...doughty is in a different stage in maturity...no disrespect to my favourite player marner and that he is mature for his age...but u got to give to get..and marner can go have fun in the sun while young...

I think cap issues would be an issue. Doughty is slated to make $11M starting next season. Marner will be just over half that. Around $7M is my guess. We are already facing a cap crunch. Finances alone would seem to indicate this trade wouldn’t happen.

Yes I would (reluctantly) trade Marner for Doughty still. In my opinion, he’s still the best defenseman in the world and is still going strong, and will be for a long time. He’s already won two cups, and that experience is invaluable on a young Leaf team with the only cup winner on the whole team is Hainsey.

David Mackin is one of the only ones on this site that knows what he's talking about...maybe a couple others...maybe!!! the leafs got to keep bringing up new recruits on elc in order to keep our core of Matty..Marner...tav...nylander..Reilly and Freddy together and that's possible it can happen...I'm down for just a right dman..and only a one year dman at that until our dman are ready in the AHL...stay the course and keep sending out the old, if we can call it that!!for draft pics...who says we got to go for it this year..we have to get better defence before we get a cup...2yrs away if we do it right...the only trade I'd do this year would be to send out Marleau,Kadri and a 3or 4th to Detroit for like Kronwall and nyquist...move nylander to 3rd line center..
i'm not the greatest at trade proposals but it would be something like that....give Detroit like a 4th for taking on Marleau for a year...I up it to Kadri and a 3rd for nyquist...even tho Kadri might be a bit better then nyquist..I took age in, as a factor...Kadri can bring his skill and veteran leadership to Detroit...and we get a good winger...to take nylander spot while he goes to Kadri spot...or just keep it simple Marleau and a 3rd for Kronwall.

Leafs4cup

1.) 17 Dec 2018 19:14:58
Marleau won't ever accept a trade to Detroit. Kadri is on a great contract and if Matthews or any other C get hurt Kadri is a great insurance policy. the leafs don't have many high end players coming up. as much as people want to think we do it's not the truth. Liljegren and Sandin may be it. and even they are just potential right now. may never be elite. the leafs pipeline is basically empty whether you want to believe it or not it's just reality.

These Nylander trades are getting crazy...I've tried thinking of so many ways and angles that we can trade him,but I can't come up with much...if I ain't trading him one for one for someone of equal or better value then u don't trade him...I'm bummed cause I liked Nylander but not so much now...no heart... And if he does get signed how we know he's going to give his all..we dont...ya I know there pros so they give 100%..ya right.he don't have any pull,so he's just hurting himself, however I believe he signs 7x7..or if it does come down to a trade which it won't...my trade could only be Nylander for someone like Dumba or panarin...and that's not happening just like this trade...it's not happening...I said back at day one...he'll be back by the 20 game mark...then it's marners turn for 20 games off...it's to see which one they can go without....cause one of the 3 will go...now that Tavares is here...I was probably one of the only few who was against the Tavares signing...k that's my Nylander take.

I hate when people say Connors the best.....hockey will never change...theyll always say the best players come from the oilers and the kings they always have Connor even says Matthews is better which is true..not to take anything away from him cause he's #2...maple leafs will never win cup..americans won't allow it..and if they ever did...it would have to because of Matthews no doubt...which he probably won't even resign with us...if he does 3-5 topps... was just thinking leafs could fall apart real quick...my guess leafs will be mediocre playoff team....you know where we make the playoffs 23 times every 20 years...just like baseball.....id rather have country vs country ...being a leaf fan is not easy and I'm so sick of the same bull that's been happening since I've been watching nearly 3540years....americans ruined hockey....

1.) 01 Nov 2018 01:06:32
Um. Not sure where to go with that.

I tend to look at it as a game. Would love to win and I think we will but if Matthews doesn't want to resign then we move on. Players have that right.

Enjoy the ride. For me, I want to see what the next 4-5 years bring. I think we will have an awesome team and if dubas us half as smart as he seems to be it won't be short term.

2.) 01 Nov 2018 06:06:16
Strange post this one. Been reading conspiracy web sites lately? Americans rig hockey now too just like every other gaming event?

Country vs. Country didn’t work. Canada dominated every single time. that's why professionals aren’t allowed in the Olympics anymore. Its just too unfair. Which i suppose if I was from any other country I would agree with, but I’m from Canada and think its a real shame our best athletes lose the opportunity to play together and show the works what the best talent on ice can produce if given the opportunity.

3.) 01 Nov 2018 14:05:04
Leafs GM

No kidding. Tournaments should be best on best. At last Olympics it was so fun to watch our best more than dominate.

4.) 01 Nov 2018 22:21:07
Hmmm. Where do I start.

You can think Matthews is better Then McDavid if you want. Most people will disagree though. I think they are the present and future stars of the league along with a few others. It doesn't matter who is better. They are both good for the game.

When you said "they always say the best players come from the oilers and kings" who are you referring as "they"

And if its Wayne Gretzky we are talking about. Its ok if they say that lol.

Ok now that's out of the way.

Which Americans won't allow Canadians to win? The owners, Bettman, players, fans? That makes no sense. The parity in the game right now has never been closer. This is because of the Salary cap. It's a good thing! The parity and the fact that Canada has only 7 of the 31 teams is the reason why A Canadian team hasn't won in awhile.

Matthews will sign an 8 year contract next year and he could very well go back to Arizona (his birth place) after this contract is over and try to Win for his hometown. Same reason Tavares did.

Enjoy the sport and enjoy the fact that the Leafs are relevant again. This window for the next few years is the best chance they've had since 1967. I won't jump off a bridge if they don't win the cup but I will be dissapointed if they aren't competitive for many years to come.

I look forward to your response.

5.) 02 Nov 2018 13:12:34
I've been a Leaf fan since Darryl and Lanny, and I must admit I used to believe this conspiracy as soon as Buttman arrived. But the officiating, flawed as it might have been seems to have balanced in recent years. Now I watched Kadri get away with a tomahawk slash a couple games ago. The officiating seems more square, and their misses are fairly even. Leafs and Jets have a fair kick at the can.
Kick back and enjoy whatever happens.

People can't stick up for Gardiner anymore..who cares if He knows how to pass and stick handle...hes way to Much of a liability...ive been counting he's got 12 effups This season that I've noticed he has to go...maybe even on conditioning to the marlies or growlers..i was one who always took his side..but i can't knowmore...gardiner to the wings for kronwall and 3rd..

1.) 12 Oct 2018 10:57:50
I've never seen a game as brutal as tonight's from Gardiner. Giveaways, mental lapses, he was absolutely atrocious. If only the Leafs had enough RHD depth to drop Gardiner to third pair and cut his 5v5 minutes. I really want to see a Dermott-Zaitsev pair for a few games, i think that could really be a solid 2nd pair. Marincin was brutal again tonight too, Ozhiganov needs to stay on the ice. Not that he's world's better or anything, but he's flashed potential as a solid NHL player.

2.) 12 Oct 2018 19:52:29
I was watching with my father last night and we were both laughing asking why doesn’t management see this?

It’s so funny that bums like us (and all of you) can clearly see this guy stinks, but they don't.

Trade him today before you can’t even get what I always propose for him . doesn’t sound so crazy anymore, does it?

Gardiner + 1st

For

2nd.

3.) 12 Oct 2018 21:06:57
No. Come on.

05 Oct 2018 03:35:45
Just my thought...I believe Nylander will sign by the 20 game mark for the rest of the season..and then it will be marners turn to go off for 20 games with an unidentified injury, just like Matthews did this past season..there just seeing which player there going to go without and use for a trade to fix are defence this summer. By signing Tavares...I believe it's going to be marners cause he's going to be worth big time cause this season he will put up big points furthering his value...which will not only fix are d problem...but he'll fetch a high draft pick as well.....I hope I'm wrong..I like marner..he's a real real good player.

1.) 05 Oct 2018 19:06:47
Tinfoil hat much?

2.) 06 Oct 2018 04:28:04
I'm not sure how to respond. I think you're saying that Matthews didn't have an injury and holding off on signing Nylander and then Marner taking time off will help identify which 2 to keep?

Marner and Matthews are not going anywhere. Nylander 50/ 50. I say again:

Nylander = guy to play on top d pair
Gardiner = resign with zero ntc and trade for whatever winger we can get.

3.) 06 Oct 2018 06:08:48
October 17 is still almost two weeks away. Did you start early? Like what kind of conspiracy theory websites have you been reading?
