LA is wanting to get younger and faster and save cap space. This trade doesn’t really address any of those concerns. As a Leaf fan, I like it. Clifford is a solid depth guy we could use to shore up LW. But I don’t think LA notes on this one.

The Laefs shouldn't be trading a 20+ ATOI defenseman for a fourth liner. The Leafs already have a tough decision to make with Ennis, no need to add another 4th line body. Losing Zaitsev hurts the Leafs depth and leaves them very thin on D next year. And throwing in a 2nd round pick serves no purpose, if anything the Kings should be throwing more in.
I don't see any positives in the short or long term in regards to this trade suggestion.

It’s obviously meant as a cap dump. The pick is because Kordic feels Zaitsev has negative value. Sure, Zaitsev plays 20 minutes a night. He also only has 7 points and a Corsi of 48%. It’s virtually unanimous among analysts that he is unproductive and overpaid. Zaitsev’s stats are very similar to Alzner’s, who is now playing in the AHL. All Kordic is suggesting is a cap dump to free up a roster spot and some salary we can then use to pursue other options. Now that we have Muzzin, we can easily dump Zaitsev and still field an above average defense corps.

Zaitsev just doesn’t really have any value left: Zaitsev and Alzner are very comparable players. I used this year’s stats, which is why the comparison is incomplete, as Alzner has a short sample size. But you can look at last year’s stats, and again, eerily similar. Both play over 20 minutes a night, average over 100 hits and 100 blocks.

Hi guys put post on here yesterday and was shot down on Kyle Clifford seems like Elliot freedman reporting leafs have had talked about a possible trade I am also say it will be Zaitsev going to LA as a cap dump with a 2nd to make for the cap hit.
Also this opens the trade with the canes of either kappy or Johnson for Pesce.
Clifford is and can be more than just a 4th line guy 9 goals this year more upside than what u have him credit for.
I for one think this is a good move adds what we lack and as for making our defence weaker adds cap space for the future contracts 4.7 out 1.8 in makes sense too me

I thought it was a good trade. I even defended it for you against one of the most astute contributors on this site (MarsBars is very intelligent hockey man) .
Clifford is LW, a position I feel we are weak in. With Marleau leaving end of next year, we need a solid guy like Clifford. I’m not sure he would be more than 4th line, at first anyway, when we still have Marleau, Hyman, Johnsson ahead of him. But he would make for a good depth guy that can be promoted in the event of injury or Johnsson trade.

Thanks mars bar just read your post Am I on glue or are we the only ones who see this I feel Clifford cost us little as a pose to a Frendland move less money. same player and I will argue this till I'm blue and white in the face.and he's not a rental.can play center when asked this guy is definitely dependent in both ends and will put you on your ass when needed
