Doughty is worth more than that. A lot more. LA will be wanting half our team for Doughty in a trade. Better to wait and see if you can sign him as UFA. If he signs with LA again, we don’t lose anything. You can always make an offer after he’s got a contract. Before then is a gamble.

IMO.....there's only a couple of moves to make for the Leafs?
1) Trade JVR + 2nd rounder for Jacob Trouba. (Sign him long term to 6-7 yrs @ 5 mil.
2) Sign UFA Brendan Smith (Sign for 2-3 yrs at 3.5-4 mil)

*I'd like to see the Leafs get their 2 targeted RH D-men with out giving up JVR?
*IMO, the Leafs will definitely draft either Foote or Hague with their 1st rd. pick.

I don't think it'd be very smart to trade Bozak. I'd keep him till his contract runs out, Nylander isn't ready for that yet.

The expansion draft will take one of those 2 players, so this would have to be done after the draft where Manson or one of the other big 3 will be picked.
However after the draft the Ducks won't want to give up a Dman as they will have already lost one.
Tanev is overrated and I wouldn't give up Marchenko and the 2nd for him. He has little offense, he will be 28 just after the season starts, is overpaid, and is often injured. No thanks.

Babcock has already said he likes Nylander on the wing with Matthews. Kadri made great strides this year and can be a number 2 C. Replacing a number 3 C should not be too difficult.

I don't think moving a top 3 C would be a good move as Nylander isn't ready to play centre yet. Best trade partner for the Leafs in my opinion are the Avalanche.

I would hate to see Kapanen go as I really enjoyed watching him in the playoffs, but Joe Sakic is a greedy GM and would want a good return if not more than what I just offered. To me this is the best trade scenario as we don't create any new holes in our offence.
Anyone agree?

JVR to Anaheim for Fowler;
Fowler to Winnipeg for Trouba.
Leafs get Trouba (R-dman they need)
Jets get Fowler (L-dman they want for Trouba)
Ducks get JVR (big power winger they want)

Leafs aren't looking to trade for D-man yet. Lou / Babs want to evaluate what they have internally with the young kids on D, plus they are expecting a lottery pick again to pluck a high end d-man so time is on their side. Don't forget Rome wasn't built in a day.

I think everyone would agree we are ahead of schedule in the rebuild? Why lose JVR, Bozak and Komarov for nothing! I would trade at least JVR and Bozak to further stock an already amazing and deep cupboard!!
JVR to the Islanders for a 2018 1st, 2nd and a prospect.
Bozak to the Pens for a 2018 2nd & 3rd rounder.
Martin to whoever for a 2018 4th round pic.
In the summer, target aggressively the Jets to obtain Trouba.....this is the ONLY move the Leafs need to make in future!

That's exactly what needs to happen. Only problem is that jets think trouba is gold. So I think Myers would be a cheaper option and would look great with rielly. Gardiner could be part of that trade as I think Dermott can fill his role.

Not a team in the NHL can ice a line-up that young, fast and deep!!
It's not going to happen but it would be nice to see?

I firmly believe that the Leafs will have 2 NEW right-shot D-men in their line-up come October but it's interesting to see the line-up if they did nothing at all? (which we all no will not happen)

I've been posting for many months many different scenarios for the Leafs that include Stamkos, Vesey, Zaitsev and top-pair right-hand shot D-man.
As we know, Zaitsev is now signed.
I am convinced that Stamkos will NOT re-sign with Tampa and that the Leafs will make some sort of deal with Tampa this week to get a 'heads-up' on signing Stammer?
There's so much debate on this and how it fits in with the Leafs re-build? Stamkos will instantly be anointed the Captaincy and he's absolutely the perfect leader/ role-model for this young team moving forward! I feel he wants to come home and be 'the man' in Toronto. there is a trust in Shanahan and Babcock where with him committing along with Mathews, the time-table of the re-build will not be as long as some people think!
Just a feeling but I think that Vesey will also be a Leaf come August?
Bozak will be gone; Lamerillo will somehow find a way to get rid of Lupul and probably Michalek also? The Leafs will ride it out this year with Bernier and then deal with their goaltending issues next off-season (UFA or Trade) .
Should Stammer and/ or Vesey come aboard then the Leafs will use JVR as the trade-chip to aquire a top end, right-shot D-man to be paired with Rielly! (Larsson, Trouba, Shattenkirk, Dumba or Savard from Columbus) . Personally, I would like to see them use JVR + draft picks to go after Seth Jones?
The future is definitely bright in LEAF-LAND!
My trade prediction is that the Leafs pull off a deal with New Jersey?
(either JVR goes to the Devils for Adam Larsson. or a smaller one where Bozak and Percy + draft pick go to the Devils for Damon Severson)

I didn't see this til now and posted a very similar lineup projection (a little less detail) . but I totally agree that it is very realistic to sign Tavares and be able to pay value to ALL of Mathews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander! With the continued pipeline of solid prospects that Hunter (and team) have been drafting. the Leafs can commit to the above 4 and still round out a very solid team. wouldn't it be incredible to see Tavares as a Leaf!

The Leafs DON'T want to give up Gardiner. so many of these proposals include Gardiner which solves nothing (IMO).
The goal is to somehow land Trouba without giving up a Dman. the only solution or trade chip they have is giving up JVR.

As you said.I don't mind where the Leafs are without Stamkos but I still have a feeling that he wants to be here and that come next week he will be a LEAF!
I'd like to see Lou contact his old team (Devils) and make a simple trade of:
Bozak + Percy for Damon Severson
Severson is young, great skater and a right-handed shot
(Ideally they could throw in Lupul also just to help Jersey get to the Cap floor)

Stammer will be a LEAF within the next 2 weeks. 7 yrs for 9.1 mill/yr.
He has always known he wanted to come home and Captain this team.I think he's just played the game this year saying all the right things but he's always known he wouldn't re-sign with Tampa (IMO).
