Cal won't trade a young Hamilton for an older JVR. It just isn't in the Flame best interest.

Aside from Gaudreau and Tkachuk they are light on the LW.
But they will not exchange the real deal RD Hamilton for JVR.
However, maybe they go for Rasmuss Anderson, a 2nd rnd. and Mark Jankowski for JVR.
Jankowski may work out but has done nothing yet, and Anderson shows some promise as a 3/4 at best D.
Or just hold on to JVR for the deadline and wait for a GM to overpay for JVR because they are contending and have a LW void to fill.

Look at it this way. The Leafs needed to do a complete rebuild with or without Kessel. Trading for him just delayed the inevitable and his failure was what finally got the complete rebuild off.
Just think; if we had of started the rebuild the next year(2013) stripped the club down and then "TANKED"(copyright Edmonton) the next year and then the next. Hmmmmm.
