Well I'm not sure he isn't a good add at the right price. 2 years left at 4.5 so fits the budget. Yes has had injuries but for say timashov and a second I would pull the trigger.

Liljegren is projected to be a much better player than Tanev. When you see Liljegren skating down the ice next year, setting up plays and looking like a real future star, while Tanev is in a hospital bed again recovering from whatever injury crippled him this time, you will be quietly trying to forget posting this trade, hoping no one ever remembers it, just wishing the thought would disappear.

I actually really like this trade. It gives us multiple things. Relief from hortons contract a stay at home d man who won’t get hurt as often when he’s no longer the only dman playing top minutes while we do lose liljegren I do think leafs fans think he’s the next Karlsson but he’s more like a Jake Gardiner with a bit more physicality.

The Horton contract doesn't matter. Since he's on LTIR, the Leafs get cap relief equal to his contract. Basically he doesn't count against the cap, and the Leafs can afford to pay him cap-free cash for nothing so who cares. I'd prefer Horton's zero-cap contract to Tanev playing 20 healthy games, 20 limping games and missing the other 42.

Hoton's contract is not a problem for the Leafs as he is on LTIR and his contract will not count against the cap. Giving up Liljegren an 18 year old, 1st round pick with huge upside for an aging, 1 dimensional player like Tanev who spends more time in the hospital than he does on the ice would go down as one of the worst trades in Leaf history.
