Just a thought...

Nylander has already agreed to terms with leafs but has agreed not to put pen to paper to allow he leafs more time to sort out goalie situation. With nylander not signed leaves us with an extra roster spot to either move a goalie or figure out who's staying up and who's getting exposed in waivers.

Are you suggesting Nylander is actually trying to do us a favor by holding out? I really don’t see this being the case.

Re-signing Nylander has been top priority for Leafs the whole summer. Our backup and 3rd string goalie situation pales in comparison to not having Nylander on the team when the season starts. Whatever goalie they decide waive or keep, it’s pretty insignificant compared to re-signing our 1LW.

@Bluenwhite, that's a heartwarming thought. But Willy missing camp hurts the Leafs more than losing a fringe goaolie to a waiver claim. At the end of the day, pickard and sparks are fringe goalies if little value.

Leafs aren't moving anyone till the deadline and if we have a chance this year at another playoff run what's the point of moving anyone at all unless of course your bringing in a huge difference maker, primarily on defence.

obciously you don't want to get nothing for JVR but if he can perform this season and help us take a serious run at the cup, why not and who knows maybe he'll take a discount to stay.

The Leafs are at 49/ 50 contracts, and Connor Brown doesn't have a contract yet.

They also will have to send down 3 players if they can clear waivers; which Leivo, Fehr will not. Marchenko and Marincin would be picked up as well.

Greening, LoVerde, Sparks, Mueller, and Rychel are not waiver exempt as well.

A trade or two will happen.

Teams that wait till the deadline to upgrade, rarely ever do better. And it leaves you unable to correct any blunders from trades.

Hammonic opted out of the playoff bubble due to his young daughter contracting a lung C.V. a couple years a ago. He didn’t want to risk anything and maybe is waiting to determine how the season will be played before he puts pen to paper.

Anyone think they haven’t actually put pen to paper yet with Ceci as they still have a chance to sign gardiner? Would rather Have gardiner over Ceci.

Kucherovs points in first three full seasons in NHL
65
66
85

Marners points in first three full seasons in NHL
61
69
94

Any one notice a trend here! This kids not just a skilled winger he’s devoted to a team and a sport his work ethic is like no other he is a special player. You don’t trade a player like that in my opinion. Do agree with redwing1 trade nylander! Not going to doubt his talent but I will always doubt his work ethic and commitment he’s a bag of pucks compared to marner.

Given the inflation and the taxes in Toronto marner should get 11 over 8 years. Kucherov got 9.5 over 8 years.

I wouldn’t be surprised if marner gets the same as Mathews 11.6 but over 8 years instead of 5. I think dubes screwed up we paid 900k less then McDavid for 5 years of Mathews get how they made this lucrative for the player to double dip in his prime, but what did we get one UFA year where Edmonton got 5 UFA years from McDavid or whatever. Doesn’t make much sense to me I’m glad to have Matthews for 5 more years but it should have been at 10 per year for 5 years save that 1.6 to sign a better back up or keep a guy like Ennis.

Sorry for the rant!

Thank you for understanding hockey, Gardiner is a complete air head look at the size of head, he’s going to make mistakes as he’s no Karlsson but he is very consistent.
