Now this makes sense except st. louis would have to structure the contract the way petro wants (50 million in digning bonuses over first 3 years) plus does that mean his first year has no NMC or NTC so if he doesn't gel with the leafs they can just deal him before year 2. this is why sign and trades don't happen with ufas too often in nhl.
That package minus the pick for petros rights seems more logical.

Larsson for freddy makes sense. edmonton would love to have freddy shot term until kostkinen is truely ready. 1 more year to backup an established goalie. Does edmonton really want 9 plus million on goalies?
Solution. any andersen deal to a cap strapped team take on half his cap hit. That way youd get a prospect or 2nd rounder with this deal guarenteed.
Puljujarvi would be a guy to try. He had tried with both mcdavid and draisiatl but was way to slow. He has insane playmaking skill but that's about it. Forchecks worst than laine and has worst shot than marner. He doesn't go to dig puck along boards but from behind net reminds me of peter stasney. From blueline in looks like adam oates. From neutral zone into defensive end looks like john kordic.
Simply have him on offensive zone faceoffs with JT and Nylander. if faceoff is lost he scoots to bench for mikhayev. he then takes a shift here and there with 4th line for ice time. Have him play PP2 as the half boards setup guy. he gets 12-14 minutes a night until he learns defence if ever. cheap offensive solution.
Just a thought.

Retaining seems like the move to me as well craiggers. Would even do a deal for a less cap dump like Reimer if necessary to get a better return.
All of that depends on Dubas though. Does he think Campbell can start? I wouldn't be surprised.

Savard has an off year imo and he his contract is going to expire soon. I would rather trade Kapanen for someone with a little more term and who is younger.

Skjei went for a 1st. Trouba went for Pionk + 1st (remembering Pionk was not expected to perform as well as he did. In fact, most considered him a bottom 4 player at best) . Forbort sent for a 4th. Martinez sent for a 3rd. Gustafsson went for peanuts
The price of defensemen has dropped dramatically. I've been saying it for quite a while. There are a lot of very good elite level defense. en posing into the system right now. Every team has at least one. Many have two. These you have guys one elc's are driving down. The price of older guys with rental contracts. They just aren't worth it anymore when there are so many younger and better players available on even cheaper contracts, often times elc.
I guess what I'm saying is, Savard is a good player. Not a great player. He is older and pending UFA. Leafs will almost in all certainty not re-sign him. So would you give up a Kapanen for Savard, knowing you can get a Skjei for a 1st? Or a Forbort for a 4th?

Having heiskanen makes Klingberg expendable. It's a great choice. I would suspect Dallas wants a bit more but with 2 years left on his deal they can't be asking to much.
