Tor trades: Kappy, Lilly, 1st

Ana trades: Manson, Ritchie

Ana. are a playoff team and taking a RD away may not go over well but they need some youth up front and Lilly would be their replacement RD in the future - They have a good D even without Manson especially when Fowler comes back.
The Leafs get exactly what they need - big strong nasty RD (controllable) to play on the top pair with Reilly and this guy can play. Make it happen Dubas

We kinda need Liljegren still even after making this trade. Maybe Sandin would be an easier pill to swallow?

I absolutely love Manson. Outstanding defenseman. Ritchie is real solid. Both these guys are heavy hitters. Leafs seem to value speed and skill highly though. May not have interest in Ritchie, even though his contract is more than reasonable and he probably still has upside potential offensively that isn’t being used properly on a defense focused team like Anaheim.

I like this deal. Or at least the framework of it is attractive. Rumors of Kapanen + for Manson/ Pesce/ Pulock/ etc have been kicked around for a while. And it makes sense. We don’t need a top tier defender coming in. That would cost to much in trade value and salary. A second tier player such as Manson like you suggest here is more appropriate.
