If I were the Leafs, I would stay clear of Ekblad and his injuries.

Ekblad is worth more to Florida than Nylander. They don’t have anyone to replace him right now, and will be holding on to him while hoping and praying that the almost inevitable doesn’t happen and he keeps it together for a few more years.

I actually think Florida would love to trade Ekblad now while they can still get a player of Nylander’s caliber in return. But Petrovic, Pysyk, Weegar just don’t cut it, and Florida has absolutely no one for RHD in the system. They went all in on Ekblad.

I love Ekblad. I really do. But every time he gets hit a little awkward, or he stays down on the ice a little longer than usual, you can’t help but think “Is this the one? ”. It’s a high risk/ low reward scenario. And I say that because I just don’t see the potential for windfall gains by obtaining Ekblad. We’ve seen his best. Damn good player, but never did live up to the whole “exceptional player” status.

Snowman. I love it. I really do. Ekblad. Fantastic player. Florida values him very highly, and I can’t blame them. Barkov might be captain, but Ekblad is the face of the franchise. I think any trade involving Florida should include their 1st. It could easily be a top 10.
