Leafs trade Nylander, Zaitsev
Jets trade Morrissey, Appleton, Vesalainen, Stanley

2019/ 2020

Marleau/ Matthews/ Kapanen
Hyman/ Tavares/ Marner
Vesalainen/ Kadri/ Appleton
(Leivo) / Gauthier/ Brown

Rielly/ Morrissey
Dermott/ Liljegren
Sandin/ Ozhiganov
(Stanley/ Rasanen)

The rumor is Jets want to flip Nylander. I don’t care what they do with him. Zaitsev gives them the RHD they need to make a decision on Myers/ Trouba as well.

Leafs get top 4 defenseman, two top nine forwards with potential to be top six, and a highly rated prospect player defenseman.

Understanding that the Jets want to flip (who cares) Nylander. Right now this trade is it financially possible as Jets have $5.5 MM OF cap space.

Don't the Leafs have to take more monies back from the Jets? Morrissey is a LHD! Shouldn't Gardiner be the traded DM instead of Zaitsev?

Or in the alternative the Leafs than trade for a RHD with Gardiner to another team. I understand the desire for Low Cost high talent players for the Leafs future.

Solid trade value wise. Heatdreamer makes a few good points and made made some solid points. I agree, after this deal is done don't give a rats butt what Winnipeg does with its players. Goal is for leafs to win cup and ice a good future team.

You've solidified this goal. good job

It's not up to Dubas to worry about the teams he deal with their cap or anything else. It's up to Dubas to worry about the leafs.

I knew somebody was going to say just send them Gardiner. I had Gardiner in there originally, because trading Zaitsev atm would still leave us short RHD the rest of this season unless they bring Liljegren up early. I changed it because I figured if Jets were going to flip Nylander for LHD, then maybe they would like the cheaper Zaitsev that helps them resolve their dilemma at RHD.

We could take some more salary back, sure.

Nylander + Gardiner + Rosen
Perrault + Morrisey + Appleton + Stanley

Salaries are a little closer.

The main issue I have, which I’m surprised you didn’t mention Heatdreamer, is that Jets are looking for LHD, so unlikely they will be trading Morrissey. But hey, at least we would be getting Stanley, which is the whole reason I floated this proposal. Lol.

Realizing L GM, that you are prescient, so I did not have to mention it.

So with that trade, Leafs edginess would be satisfied, that toughness would be great as long as Babcock, can teach no body slamming.

Morrissey is worth more than Nylander on his own and the Jets have no need for Zaitsev, as we have plenty of 5-6 defenseman. So, there is zero chance the Jets would be adding on top of Morrissey.

You'd be looking at Nylander + Sandin or Liljegren if you wanted a shot a Morrissey.

Nylander on his own doesn't have the value to get a top pairing defenseman. If he did, the Leafs would have traded him long ago.

@memarcusjoe

Morrissey is not very big, has average offense (will be a perennial 20 point player), and is a LD who are a dime a dozen. On the Leafs he wouldn't make 3rd pair right now. He was invisible in the playoffs last year. And they signed him for 3.15 M only. And that tells you everything.

He's not even close to the value of Nylander. Besides, they will have to unload players to sign both Nylander and Laine. I think they should pay Laine 14M he's just so good.

@ LeafsGM

I think you're reaching here, but nice targets (especially Appleton and Vesalainen.

LeafsGM has Morrissey exactly where he would play on the Leafs, top pair, just like on the Jets. That would give Toronto one defenseman that could actually play defense. So, that should tell you something right there.

The Jets currently have 4 wingers that are far better than Nylander, so Nylander is a 3rd line winger on the Jets.

Top pairing defenseman are worth way, way more than soft 3rd line wingers.

As I said, if Nylander had the value that he could be traded for a to pairing defenseman he would have been traded already.
