With LA changing it up Doughty isn't going anywhere. Lewis 3rd liner. Wouldn't touch Kovalchuk with ten foot pole.

For the hundredth time Gauthier and Leivo have no trade value.

I don’t think the Kings have reached the point where they would consider trading Doughty for several reasons. First, their management spent considerable time courting Doughty to ensure that he re-sign with the club on a long term deal. Second, Kings management’s commitment to Doughty long term acknowledges their recognition of his importance to their franchise, and see Doughty as the face of the franchise.

Although the Kings are doing poorly this year, a couple of years of drafting and developing while getting younger are plausible. Just look at how quickly the Leafs turned their rebuild around with the right direction and patience.

We also do not want to confuse the King’s situation with that of Ottawa’s and Erik Karlsson. Ottawa had to trade their star defender. Despite their season, the Kings are not under pressure to do so.

Team’s generally do not let their franchise players go so easily. There may come a point in time where the Kings may feel the need to move on from Doughty, but now isn’t that time. If or when they do, they will ask for far more than what is proposed in your trade proposal. If you were the Kings, wouldn’t you ask for more?

Aside from the asking is fitting Doughty’s 11 million per season contract, which may feel a little rich, especially in a few years as he ages.

As for Kovalchuk, the Leafs already have an elder statesman in Marleau who provides a similar role as the savvy veteran and is a leadership presence in the dressing room. Some of you may argue that Kovalchuk is a better offensive player and that may be true, but Marleau also provides so many intangibles that would be a mistake to part with.

Lastly, the salary exchange wouldn’t make sense for the Leafs, not without having to shed more money.

You must be crazy to think the kings would consider this. doughty alone has more trade value. the only way they would consider is if they need cap room kovalchuk and doughty. leivo and GOAT are both terrible . GOAT is probably the worst in the NHL . i'd love to see both doughty in blue and white though and kovalchuk instead of nylander.

I don't see Nylander, Zaitsev and crap worth Doughty. however add in kovalchuks bad contract and LA may think. but only think. don't see Doughty leaving but as I always say you never know.
