As much as I still want to resign Nylander, got to think about trading. The only package worth taking is good young player for a good young player or top prospect and a 1st, and the prospect needs to be near NHL ready.

A few options:

To TOR: D - D. Hamilton

To CAR: F - W. Nylander + D - A. Nielsen

Or

To TOR: D - R. Pulock + 2019 3rd

To NYI: F - W. Nylander

Or

To TOR: D - D. Fabbro + 2019 1st

To NSH: F - W. Nylander

I like the Nashville trade the best. But Leafs don’t get anything to help them right away is all, while Nashville gets an immediate boost to their offense. The reason I like the Nashville trade more is because those guys will be under control for a long time, and will be really starting to come in as part of the new core after guys like Kadri, Tavares, Zaitsev, etc all start to get in to their 30’s and start declining.

So a there are a few things here that I would like to talk about
1. Why do you think Carolina would trade Hamilton after that blockbuster trade during the draft to acquire him? I'm just curious and I'm wondering if it could actually happen in Carolina really is all-in.

2. I don't think Pulock is worth trading Nylander to me. He is a great defencman for sure, but I just don't think giving up an elite forward for a top 4d and a 3rd is a good deal, it sounds a lot like the Hall for Larsson deal

3. I think if the leafs trade Nylander they will upgrade their defence, and even if this wasn't the case, Fabbro is not the guy I think they would go after. It would probably be another elite player or a package of top 6 forwards.

Fabbro is a good start but that 1st round pick is going to be #30 or #31.
Not nearly enough for Nylander.
Tolvanen, Fabbro and Allard for Nylander plus a pick or prospect is much more reasonable.

The difference between the Pulock trade and Hall trade is the Leafs do add a pick. Had Edmonton got something else, at least there would be another variable. I think Pulock is good, all players listed are former 1st round picks.

As for Hamilton, I believe Carolina made that trade as they had troubles signing the players. Would Carolinas D still be good without Hamilton, yes. They would get a superior F in Nylander vs Lindholm.

Fabbro I would only do on condition that he signs. He's in college.

Yes the 1st will be low, but still a 1st and great for trade deadline capital.
