The Leafs have been poor asset managers the past year, where they should have traded away JVR and Gardiner and acquired a minimum of 2 1st's for those guys.

Also, all 3 of Nylander, Marner and Matthews should be under contract by now. By waiting thr price tags are going up!

Trade of prospects

To COL: D - R. Sandin

To TOR: D - C. Timmins

Swap of prospects of LHD for RHD

Also on Nylander, a 2 year bridge

Hes already sat out nearly 20% of the games, so what about this

Year 1 $3M
Year 2 $5M

Cap hit of $4M, but his jump off on his next deal is at $5M. He'll lose less than $1M in cash on this deal

Thoughts?

you can't force guys to sign, it's there right to hold out. The only way to get them to sign early in this case is and overpay! we don't have the luxury to do so even without Tavares. All this pecese talk for Nylander will be worse than hall for larsson. 2.0 anyone?

I’m all for the Colorado trade. Avs need LHD just as bad as we need RHD.

I disagree on the signing comment. First off, in my eyes, Matthews value has dropped aignificantly because of injuries. The longer he’s out, the less he’s worth. As for the Nylander signing, it works in the teams favor to wait last minute to sign him because of the way the cap works: he carries a cheaper cap hit for the duration of his contract following this year. The offer you suggest isn’t anywhere close to what he’s worth, and I wouldn’t accept it either if I was him.

If anyone thinks Matthews is signing for anything less then what is rumored 12-12.5ish if not more, then they r nuts. He will get his money. Easy signing for Leafs.

Couple of injuries is no cause for concern. Doesn't play reckless or dumb.

On a 2 year bridge, that is market for Nylander. It's on longer deal he could get more. Kucherov was at $4.8M on a 3 year bridge.

As for Matthew's, I feel if they addressed it, he could have signed for $11M last year.

@rocket

I’m not going to argue with you on it over a couple bucks. We are definitely signing Matthews long term for big bucks. But I will say that dislocating both shoulders in less than a year is a cause of concern. Shoulder injuries are longer lasting and more prone to re-injury because of the ball amd socket type joint they are, as opposed to the hinge style joints in the rest of the body. Depending on how long he’s out, and if he gets hurt again (very real possibility), could have impact on how much he signs for.

Not sure why people get so hung up on LHD RHD. Babcock says says he prefers it and people get all goofy.

Been saying it for awhile focus on talent and fit not which way guy shoots. Good chance Leafs get RHD this year but hopefully which he shoots should not be #1 reason for getting certain guy

Timmons has not shown anymore then Sandin to this point. I know Timmos is injured

Don't understand trade suggestion

Take Sandin be happy. Let it play out for couple years. No one has said Timmons is much better.

I don't think we should make Sandin for Timmins. By the time Timmins is ready he will be 3rd pairing behind Liljegren and Zaitsev and possibly could be battling with Rasanen when his contract in the KHL is up or someone the Leafs trade for.

Nylander won't sign a 2 year deal unless you pay him 14 plus million. anything less than that wouldn't be worth this holdout.

Timmins for Sandin is a fair deal and a good thought but I don't think it ever happens.

Now Gardiner for Timmins or Johnson for Sandin is more what we will see. One team berids themself of a vet for a solid B+ level prospect.

That's my thought take it how you wish and keep proposing.

No way in hell Matthews is worth US$12 million to US$12.5 million a season on a long-term deal of 8 years. Marner is easily worth US$9.5 million on an 8 yr deal which I think is fair. Matthews is around US$10 million a season like his buddy Eichel on an 8 yr deal which is more than fair. McDavid's contract of US$12.5 million a season was assinine on his GM's (Chiarelli) part and is not even worth US$11 million/ season.

Sandin (LHD) for Timmins (RHD) looks fine on paper but Timmins has already suffered more than one serious concussion and still isn't playing while he recovers from the latest.
To risky IMHO.

Doesnt matter what you think Matthews and McDavid are worth. Fact is McDavid got his money and so will Matthews as I said around 12 mil. Not my rule just reality.

Funny you say what you say then come out and say Marner is worth 9.5. Not a chance.

I wish we could make a bet because like it or not Matthews gets his money.

are we just ignoring the fact that this clown wanted to trade JVR and Gardiner like what goes through your head dude. Who trades a first/ second line winger and a top 4, 2nd best D on this team, from a team who is going to make the playoffs. This isn't 2014 anymore dude they're not tanking get your head out of your ass.

IF ANYTHING if you were going to trade them you trade them for guys who would be able to contribute at a high NHL level the next year NOT for first rounders who won't be on this team for about 5 years. Even then you wouldn't get the value for them back that you get from them in the final season and PLAYOFFS because JVR would be a rental and Jake had 1 year left on the table.
