If the Leafs do bring Nylander back, they will be tight up against the cap next season.

To NYI: D - N. Zaitsev + F - J. Bracco + D - E. Rasanen

To TOR: D - R. Pulock

Good for both teams. Toronto upgrades at RHD, NYI get a solid RHD signed LT along with two quality prospects for their build on the fly

Sign Matthews - 8 year $96M ($12M AAV)
Sign Nylander - 4 year $19M ($4.75M AAV
Sign Marner - 7 year $56M ($8M AAV)

With this, they will fit under the cap for next season, have all 3 under contract and none of the contracts will expire in the same season (Nylander 4, Tavares 7, Marner 8, Matthews 9)

Nylander can then look for a larger pay day in 4 years with great production, up to him!

Not necessarily. It all depends on how much they sign him for, or is that too logical for you?

2019 1st, Zaitsev, Leivo
For
Pulock
I think we should keep Bracco and Rasanen, they show real promise and could be multimillion dollar players in the future.

Not bad but either take out a Rasanen or add something for islanders. Pulock isn't that good. he is just cheaper.

I don’t think Nylander would accept that offer or he would have been playing already.

Trading Zaitsev for pulock doesn’t really help our situation much. I would try to find a way to bring Pulock in without losing Zaitsev.

@DBF They will be right if all 3 sign large LT deals. Is that hard for you to understand, look at the math before commenting.

As for trading Zaitsev for Pulock, I feel Pulock has a higher ceiling. Assuming Liljegren will make the jump to the NHL next season, that would provide the Leafs with a top 4 D next season of

Rielly Pulock
Dermott Liljegren

To me that looks like a solid top 4.

Don't mind that top four at all. I've read many posts on Zaitsev and for what it's worth here is my view.

If u take a look at say the top 10 teams in the league last year, there are similarities on how they spend money. But bottom pairing salaries are pretty low.

On the leafs, assuming they trade for someone to play with Reilly and Liljegren moves up to play second pair with Dermott, that leaves Zaitsev on third pair. 4.5 for third pair may be too much

On the other hand his value isn't high so likely getting very little return, especially with the length of contract

To me they decide to play him as the veteran on the third pair next year or move him this year. Of course this all hinges on Liljegren being ready.
