So i'm sure you have all heard the rumors about the leafs intrest in Josh Anderson. So here is an idea of a trade.

Panarian + anderson, (provided panarin will talk contract)

Nylander + Brown + 3rd.

Lines are

Panarin-mathews- kapper
Hyman-tavs-marner
Marleau-kadri-Anderson
Johnnson-lindy-leivo

Rielly-Gardiner
Dermott-Ozighanov
Hainsy-Zaitsev.

I’m all for getting Anderson but I’d be looking at Murray coming back, not penarin. With nylander Columbus will be free to move penarin to another team for whatever they choose.

@Bettsy
Exactly, so they give him to us.
I have suggested the leafs trading Nylander to Columbus for Panarin and a defenceman before, but Murray sucks, I would rather have Marincin over him to be honest
@howlingstone
I think you have made a good offer here, and one Columbus would definetly comsider doing, but I think with the way Kapanen has been playing, if the leafs do trade Nylander it will be for a defenceman, definetly a fair proposal though.

Not sure Murray is the right solution for us. He’s missed a lot of time the last two years. Columbus would need another defenseman coming their way to replace Murray as well. As bad as he is, No Hurry Murray is still needed on a defensively inept Columbus team.

@howlingwolf

Gotta love that Anderson’s size. He could also put up some good numbers in an offensively stacked Leafs team. May be a breakout year for him.

Honestly, I think we have a better defence than people think, and with liligren and sandin coming up we have a two top 4d in the next year or two, we really don't need a dman.

Also, I think if we can maintain our offence, then we don't need as high quality d, as we are always in the o-zone. (high flying offence lol)

@howlingstone, your right about Sandin and Liljgren, which is why I’m so interested in Pulock and Nutivaara, they have cheap contracts and those contracts aren’t for a long term, so once Liljgren and Sandin are ready, we could keep one and trade the other, it works out perfectly.

Our defense is pretty good, yes. 12th best in the league last year for gaa. The issue is consistency. Hainsey fell apart towards the end of the year and can no longer be relied upon as a workhorse to cover for Rielly all the time. Gardiner frustrates me to the point where I’ve given up on him like he does the play every game, whereas before I used to defend him. Liljegren and Sandin I’ve got slotted into my mock roster next year, but are they really good enough for 1RHD and 3LHD respectively, with Dermott as 2LHD? That’s debatable at this point. Randy hates Zaitsev, but he’s all we got. We kinda need him. He’s inexpensive and not a complete disaster like Gardiner defensively, and he hits a lot and blocks a lot of shots.

And the worst thing is: we can’t afford to upgrade our defense majorly unless we dump salary somewhere, and that would require trading one of our high prices forwards.

If Leafs are going to win with what we got, then they will have to continue putting pucks in the net ala 1980’s Oilers style.
