Carolina will need to add a pick and a prospect due to Faulk is older and has less term after Nylander signs which he will soon.

The holdup is that Toronto wants 5.5-6 per year on 6-8 year deal so he looks excellent for a team to want to trade for him. Nylander wants 8x8 so he is getting paid no matter where he goes.

Leafs want him to take discount to help team but he feels they want to trade him. Thus why would he want to take discount just to go somewhere else.

I say sign him to a 6.66 x 8 deal. that's Pasternak money but less % of cap than when Pasternak signed with Boston. plus it's a good evil number per year.

After the signing happens the more term the deal has the more picks and prospects the Leafs get from Carolina in this particular deal. Justin Faulk plus

2 years add 2nd Rd pick
3-4 years add 1st Rd pick
5-6 years add 1st Rd pick and prospect
7+ years add 1st Rd pick,2nd Rd pick and prospect.

Faulk is sort of trash, and the Leafs have tons of defensemen like him. And Zaitsev has predictably returned to form, and is on a very fair deal. If Willy goes to Carolina, it should be for Pesce.

What is with this desire to bring in a RH Jake Gardner.
Falk is not a good defenseman.
If he was Carolina would not be trying to trade him.
Falk is exactly the tripe of player Leafs don't want!
Falk is not in the same class of player as Nylander and once again he Leafs are giving up by far the best player.
No thanks to this arrangement.
