Can't say it enough this is what we need to do.

I would be a big fan of this trade. I really like Erik Johnson, despite his contract. Perfect world, Colorado retaims a bit of salary but they would have to extend Nylander and Rantanen (and Gardiner? ) in the next year, so they might not be willing to do that. Snagging Makar would be awesome too. Make it so.

To get Makar, I would take on Johnson, and then dump him as soon as Liljegren and Makar were in the lineup full time. It’s a big cap hit and I have a hard time seeing how Leafs would be able to afford him the duration of his contract.

Well if we talk about next year and Johnson being part of it, he and Reilly are $11m. Makar, Liljegren and Dermott very affordable. Likely cheaper options at 6-7. One more veteran (Imo) at say 3-4m makes the group affordable. Providing Gardiner as well as Zaitsev if possible are moved. Easier said than done though.

I love this trade. I really would love to have zadorov in this deal but I would be happy with that.

Avs wouldn’t be trading Zadorov. He’s their best LHD right now. Gardiner of all people would be brought in to be 1LHD. That’s how desperate the Avs are in that position.

Would love to have Zadorov on Leafs. A virtual monster of a man, he led the league with a whopping 278 hits last year. He does everything Gardiner can’t. But considering what they gave up to obtain Zadorov, who has easily lived up to expectations, you can be sure Avs will be keeping him.
