Leafs accepted a 4th round pick in 2016 for taking on Eric Fehr and his 1.5 years left of a 2M cap hit (approx $3 million)

Proposal:
TOR: Horton UFA 2020 ($8.1 million salary)
2019 4th round pick (lower of ours or STL)

For

ARZ: Bolland UFA 2019 ($5.5 million salary)

A difference of $2.6 million. Arizona has accepted multiple trades in the past taking on salaries for draft picks. If Chayka loves his picks like Dubas does he would probably jump on this. It defers $1 million in salary payable this year and Horton's contract is insured anyways.

This essentially just speeds up the process and gets Horton off the books a year early. Eliminates the LTIR cap issues we will face when Matthews and Marners new contracts come into play next season.

Where do u get 8.1 million. 5.3 is hortons salary. that's a 200 thousand difference.

Just ask Matthews or Marner to hold out next season until start of year. Then they can sign a bigger deal after Horton LTIR kicks in. that's cheating the system.

I think we have to do a third round pick just because Bolland expires after this year.

Horton is on a LTIR, MEANS NOTHING DEAL.

Horton's not on LTIR until the season starts, and if a team is over the cap when the season starts they incurr a cap penalty the next year and lose cap space. Moving horton's last year off the books actually does make sense, and a 4th round pick seems like appropriate payment for Arizona taking on that burden. I'm 100% in favour of this trade.
