Just like most people (me included) were saying all year, Nylander's contract value should fall somewhere in between Ehler's and Pastrnak. Nylander is not nearly as good as Pastrnak and with the rumors of his comparable to Draisaitl, he his ludicrous.

1st - Nylander is not a Centre, he's a winger. Centre's tend to command more money. That is why Draisaitl got paid.

2nd - Nylander blew the opportunity to rise to the occasion without Matthews and in the playoffs and did not in either scenario

He should be so lucky to get the contract the Leafs will pay, as he gets to play alongside Matthews and/or Tavares now going forward.

If he doesn't want to stay on a team friendly/fair deal, then he'll find himself on another team.

Off season deal (potential)

To WNG: F - W. Nylander

To TOR: D - J. Trouba

Trouba would conmand like 7.5 mill is the problem though so I don’t think he is the best solution.

At least he helps to solve a big gap for the Leafs, but I get what you're saying. That may not be significantly more than Nylander.

If you think negotiations with Nylander aren’t going well, just imagine what the scenario next year with Trouba will be like. If Jets move Trouba, it will likely be only because they don’t want to have to go through the torturous process or re-signing him.

Leafs pass. Trouba is too injury prone and greedy.

Nylander signs 1yr 13.25 million this year when cap doesn't matter and his cap hit is 13.25

Then signs 8x6.5 in January when eligible to sign extension

That's 9 years 65.25million . without the 7.25 cap hit

6.5 now That's a cap hit the leafs can work with.

You are equating value to a number. Agents are equating value to a percentage of new cap. So Nylander may get more than we expect.
