To Washington
Carrick and Gauthier 5th Rd 2019

To Toronto
Bowey and Dowd

Washington gets quicker dman, project prospect a later pick

Toronto gets bigger RHD and faceoff guy

Very small deal that may or may not help both teams

I can’t call Gauthier a bust because he never projected higher than 3rd-4th line at best anyway. I don’t know why Leafs drafted him 1st round knowing full well that his ceiling was low. Carrick is a good player who Babcock doesn’t seem to trust for whatever reason. Neither of these guys have any long term future with the Leafs, and it wouldn’t hurt to trade them out and see if we can bring someone in that we can use.

Not sure who Dowd is. I couldn’t find a trace of anyone named Dowd in Washington’s system. But Bowey looks sharp. He may or may not work out on Leafs as bottom pairing defenseman, but even if he doesn’t play more than a handful of games, then I guess we got our value out of him.

Nic Dowd is a right handed 6"2 196 centre who is a solid faceoff guy but lacks offensive talent. he is a Capital right now after being a King and Canuck.

He’s big enough. That’s for sure. Not very high offensive production though. But since you aren’t trading anyone offf the roster or who even has a real good chance at making the team, then I say go for it.
