Lets see, the Leafs' forward lines are set and they aren't too bad on defense, but a slight upgrade would be best. On top of that, the battle between McElhinney and Sparks for the backup roll. So maybe?

To TML: Trouba + Brossoit
To WPJ: Sparks + Gardiner + 2019 1st

We can bury Brossoit with the Marlies and Trouba is our stay-at-home Dman. Figured Trouba (despite set to become an RFA after season's end) is worth a 1st and Gardiner. Sparks for Brossoit is just a swap. Then re-sign Trouba to a 7 year, $7M ($49M) extension. Then the lineup would look like:

Marleau/Matthews/Nylander
Johnsson/Tavares/Marner
Brown/Kadri/Kapanen
Hyman/Lindholm/Ennis
*Leivo
-------------------------
Rielly/Trouba
Dermott/Hainsey
Carrick/Zaitsev
*Holl
-------------------------
Andersen
McElhinney

I like it, although I think a 2nd would get it done.

I think memarcusjoe won’t like this deal when he sees it. And neither do I.

Trouba is obviously a very talented young man. I don’t feel he’s reached his full potential because of injury. If he were to remain healthy for the duration of this season, it would greatly increase his chances of negotiating a contract in his favor. Having said that, the negotiations didn’t go well this time around, and the situation had to be resolved in arbitration. Jets may be looking to move Trouba rather than have to go through the trouble next year all over again. But probably not until closer to deadline time if they haven’t come to terms by then. I still say Leafs should pass on Trouba. He wants to get paid full time money but only work part time hours.

Although I would do it in a heartbeat, the Jets would never do this. They don't need Sparks and not sure if they like the return of Gardiner and a 1st.

LeafsGM is correct. That is a terrible offer and doesn't get you anywhere near Trouba. Trouba won't be traded until next summer at the absolute earliest and only if a long term deal can't be worked out.

In either case Trouba will be traded for far more than what you are offering.

Why are you saying trouba won't be traded until summer. he's only on a 1yr contract so if they can't make a contract work he's gone my march.

Hrenkin,
The Jets still own Trouba's rights for another year after this one. So, he won't move until next summer at the earliest.
