So I think Puljujarvi is not the prospect that people hoped he would be, but he is still a decent one, and someone Edmonton may consider trading to fix their depth and blue line, he was kind of pushed and rushed so I think moving organizations could be good for him, plus he could be cheap if we give him a bridge deal
Here is what I propose
To Edmonton:
Gardiner (with 3 year extension), 2019 1st, Leivo, Pickard (conditional 4th), Kapanen, Neilson, Borgman
To Leafs:
Puljujarvi, 2019 1st
Then we fix our defence
To Winnepeg
2020 1st, Bracco, 2021 2nd
To Leafs:
Trouba (just for this year, that's it, then we trade him, ok LeafsGM, just 1 year of this guy then we get rid of him, can you handle that?)
Lines:
Hyman/Tavares/Marner
Marleau/Matthews/Nylander
Johnsson/Kadri/Puljujarvi
Ennis or Grundström/Lindholm/Brown
*Jooris
Reilly/Trouba
Dermott/Zaitsev
Hainsey/Ozhiganov
*Holl
Anderson
Sparks
Next year
1 Marleau trade to San Jose
2 Trouba and Zaitsev trades
To Carolina
Trouba (RFA), 2020 7th (X2)
To Leafs:
Faulk, Di Giuseppe
To Arizona:
Zaitsev, Korshkov
To Leafs:
Strome, retain $500 thousand of Zaitsev's contract
2019-20 Lines
Johnsson/Matthews/Nylander
Hyman/Tavares/Marner
Strome/Kadri/Puljujarvi
Di Giuseppe/FA/Grundström
*FA, Moore
Reilly/Faulk
Dermott/Liljgren
FA (Schmidt)/Holl or Ozhiganov (other is 7th d)
Anderson
Sparks
I know what your going to say
"You killed our depth"
Well look at our lineup, we don't need that much depth, we have almost 10 guys under the age of 25, we don't need that much depth if we got them, plus we do still have Trevor Moore, Timashov, Sandin, Durzi, Brooks, plus the guy we get with Edmonton's pick, our 2019 2nd so it, and SDA if he turns out to be a boom pick

I like your thinking with the deals for this year.
Then as I read on, the next year stuff makes me scroll down until done.

Worry about this year. All the other stuff is too far away. Again, I like what you have done for this year.

I don’t understand why you are trading for Trouba for one year and then trading him to Carolina for Faulk. Why not just trade directly with Carolina for Faulk now? You traded Zaitsev. So after Faulk’s contract expires, we only have Liljegren as only good RHD.

I would retain Kapanen in the Edmonton trade and offer them Brown instead. Put Puljujarvi on 4th line.

What I don’t understand is why you would bother trading that big package of:
Borgman, Leivo, Pickard, a conditional 4th, Kapanen, Neilson and Gardiner (with an extension already in place)

For

puljujarvi

And a swap of firsts (which realistically is a wash as Edmonton could potentially compete)

Especially if you say he is not the prospect they thought, meaning he wasn’t worth his draft slot. And he is just a “decent” prospect. That being said why would Toronto not expect more back in that trade.

I don’t think Edmonton are contenders, they will be out of the playoffs this year, maybe the year after no but this year they aren’t getting in, and that pick has a potential to be in the top 10, and if not Top 15 so I don’t thjnk it’s a wash, plus it could replace quantity depth with quality depth, which I think the leafs could afford seeing how young they are
And LeafsGM, you have a point, But even if this was the case, who says we couldn’t de-sign Faulk, we will probably be able to after trading away so much cap.

Winnipeg would say no. You're not getting Trouba for a pile of garbage.
