Buffalo has three first round picks for next year. Maybe they would like a 4th?

To Buffalo: Brown, Kapanen, 1st
To Leafs: Ristolainen

I don’t see Ristolainen remaining in Buffalo much longer. This trade gives them a couple guys who can contribute immediately, at least top nine if not top six on weak Buffalo team. And another 1st so they can dominate next years draft.

We get Ristolainen. I think we can all agree he would be ideal candidate for that 1RHD position.

Even though I like the premise of adding Rist to our line up, and what you offer almost seems fair, I just feel that then need a D man in the swap, plus they almost need to rip us off considering that we will be high in the standings and a very late round first pick, ( which is still good) but maybe try Liljegren, Kapanen, Carrick ( to plug in some spot) and a first in order to get it done. Either you give more to get if you want it that bad or maybe the deal becomes no deal. my opinion of course, but if our window is more than half open and our cupboards are stocked with promise. The time is now to do revenuers like that.

I hate dealing within the division kap will burn our D with his speed.

It’s ok to deal with the basement dwellers. When Leafs dealt with Ottawa and Boston, they were division leaders and Leafs had no chance of contending. The trades we made did nothing to turn us into contenders either, while bolstered the Bruins and Senators playoffs hopes. I don’t see dealing with Tampa any time soon. But Buffalo is years away from being contenders. A deal with them that mutually benefits both teams may be possible.

@thatguy

I was hoping to leave Liljegren out of it, which is why I offered up Kapanen. I would be very reluctant to offer both. Buffalo drafted Dahlen this year, and with four first round picks next year, with at least one of the top five I’m sure, they will have their choice of the best players in any position at their disposal.

If they really need a d-man going back their way, they can have a lesser prospect such a short Rasanen or Durzi. Or hell, they can even have Gardiner and we keep Kapanen. Lol. Liljegren is special and is going to be a valuable piece to this team in one year or less.

@LeafsGM
I am on board with that^.
I want to see Lil in our lineup as well at some point.
