I was just reading an article on hockeybuzz and it talked about how the Winnipeg Jets are in possibly a tigh position with their defence they currently have about 8 players to sign two of them being Trouba and Morrissey they are able to sign both but then next year the jets have Laine wheeler and conners to sign so the jets most likely have to move someone or let a good player walk for nothing so here's what I purpose.

Tor: Myers and a pick

Win: Kapanen and a pick

I don't know what the picks would be but I think the jets jump all over this yes Kapanen is and will be a great player but Toronto has stupid winger depth I have posted trades for myer that includes Gardiner but the jets will want a cheap contract so here's what the leafs do they add Myers at the trade dead line the leafs move either pending free agents Gardiner or Hainsey then at the end of the season with us shedding Gardiner and Hainseys cap we are able to resign Myers I'd say to a 4-5 year deal.

Same answer as to when you proposed this below. The Jets have zero need for wingers.

If you believe anything on Ekplug's site you are a fool.

@DBF

it’s not even the fact that he wrote the article the fact is that Winnipeg has a lot of big contracts up so why would the leafs try and get a defencemen off them.

Why would Leafs trade Kapanen, a young player under control for at least the next 8 years, for a one year rental in Myers? If Jets aren’t willing to let’s myers walk for nothing, why would Leafs be willing to put themselves in the same position?

This trade would mean that we would have Hainsey, Gardiner, and Myers all expiring contracts same time next year. That would be half the defense. And we are trading 8 years of Kapanen’s services for 1 year of Myers?

Leafs pass.

@leafsgm

I agree Kapanen is a good player but we need defencemen Gardiner probably won’t be resigned same for Hainsey so after this year weather they are traded at the deadline or just let go both their contracts together free up 7 mil allowing the leafs to resign Myers the leafs put themselves in a good position but to be a cup contender you need defence so somewhere down the line they have to sacrifice something because they won’t be able to offer contracts to any big name defencemen like Karlsson.

The Leafs won't trade Kapanen for 1 year of Myers. The Leafs will be in a cap crunch next season too. So let him walk to UFA as is with Gardiner and if you can sign him and have space, go for it.

Myers has one more year on his contract then the Jets can't afford to resign him.
Gardner has one more year on his contract then Leafs can't afford to resign him.
Jets need LHD help.
Leafs need RHD help.
I know this has been suggested many times before but I still think a straight up hockey trade of Gardner for Myers makes sense for both teams.
It doesn't cost either team in terms of money or term.

Reilly - Myers
Hainsey - Zaitsev
Dermot - Carrick/ Holl/ Oshiganov.

Plus

Gardiner-Byfuglien
Morrissey-Trouba
Kulikov-Poolman
Chiarot

Looks like an improvement for the Jets too. Byfuglien's heavy physicality would compliment Gardiner's finesse style rather well.

Though having Reilly-Gardiner-Dermott on all three pairs gives the Leafs a solid puck distributing defenseman on each pair. I'm torn between moving Gardiner and keeping that trio down the left backside. The possibilities for maintaining the offensive zone and cycling are borderline disgusting.
