Just having some fun now. Trying to get discussion going.

Toronto trades Nylander, Johnsson
Anaheim trades Lindholm, Ritchie

Toronto trades Reilly, Kapanen, 1st
Detroit trades Mantha, Larkin

Toronto trades Gardiner
St. Louis trades Dunn, Brodziak

Usually I provide my reasoning here for my proposals, but in this case since this proposal is so outside the norm, I want to wait for the discussions that inevitably follow such shenagins as this. Post in comments below your criticisms and I will reply my answer.

Leafs lineups next year.

Larkin/ Matthews/ Marner
Marleau/ Tavares/ Mantha
Hyman/ Kadri/ Brown
Ritchie/ Berglund/ Lievo
*Ennis, Jooris

Lindholm/ Hainsey
Dermott/ Zaitsev
Dunn/ Carrick
*Ozhiganov
(Sandin/ Liljegren )

Andersen
McBackup
Sparks
Picard.

Typo: Supposed to say Berglund, not Brodziak in the St. Louis trade. I was originally going to post trade for Brodziak, but changed my mind last minute for Berglund (bigger, younger, scores more goals) . Berglund is correct in the proposed lineups.

Offensively that looks good don't know if we can afford those players tho and defensively I think looks worse than what we got now Rielly is way better than Lindholm.

Isn’t Berglund in Buffalo? Would love Ritchie’s grit and Larkin with Matthews would be incredible!

Although the deals are not terrible. This would not happen. The team is pegged (by Veags odds) to win the cup, you don't trade away your core, you tinker and add a piece of 2.

Saying Reilly is better than Lindholm is like saying the ace of clubs is better than the ace of diamonds. Certainly Reilly is the more offensive player but makes a lot of mistakes and defensive gaffes (many of which have been hidden by Hainsey covering for him) . Lindholm plays a far safer game and is more responsible defensively. You are correct that the defense looks weaker. Dunn is a far stretch from Gardiner, and I have done nothing to address the glaring need on RHD.

You’re right. Berglund was trades to Buffalo as part of the Ryan O’Reilly trade. Guess I was better off with my first choice in Brodziak after all.

You make the best point. We have a very talented core, and trading away players like Nylander and Reilly (and even Gardiner) is an easy way to mess with team chemistry and unbalance the stability the current roster has.

I just put these trades up for fun. Thinking of possibilities is all.

Good feedback from everyone. I appreciate the comments.

Go Leafs.
