I like all these trades and think with a little tweaking they are all reasonable.

Trade 1: Remove Hainsey, as he is not a dealbreaker, and we could still use him for another year (at minimal, he is vastly better than Carrick) . I’m pretty sure Wild would still make the deal without Hainsey.

Trade 2: Exchange of pending UFA’s is good. Columbus can use a defenseman, as after Jones and Werenski, the talent drops. It’s pretty well agreed Panarin is worth more than Gardiner, so we throw in a couple prospects or a pick is about right.

Trade 3: Looks about right.

I like your lineups. If we could assemble a team like this, we would have to be considered heavy favourites to win the cup.

Good job mostleaf. I think this is your best proposal yet.

All not good. Every team would say No.

What do you disagree with about these trades, and how would you improve them?

Last I checked 3RHD’s aren’t worth a whole lot, so the Pesce trade looks fair.

A pending UFA such as Panarin is, who only wants short term deals isn’t going to garner a whole lot of return either. Gardiner and a couple picks/ prospects is probably as good as Columbus can expect.

The Brodin trade seems to favor the Leafs a little because Minnesota doesn’t get a player that can contribute right away. But being tight against the cap, I expect they would accept a 1st and a highly rated prospect such as Sandin, as well as a couple other lower end picks/ prospects as mostleaf has offered.

I think all these trades look acceptable, and I would be surprised if these guys were trades for anything beyond what is being offered here.

But again, why do you think these trades are unacceptable, and what do you believe is a better offer?

Ya so other then Hainsey this is good, I just put him in because I think by making these trades leafs would be tight against the cap.

None of these suggested trades seems close to being reasonable.
A 2018 1st round pick plus a 2019 1st round pick for Brodin is a gross overpayment.
Unless it's Matt Dumba or Jared Spurgeon coming back Leafs will hold on to their 1st round picks.
Gardner plus a couple of AHL prospects for Panarin, one of the top offensive players in the league is not something the Columbus GM (can't spell his name) is going to be interested in. Columbus has Werenski and Jones to anchor their defense and don't Ned Gardiner.
Brown, Sparks and a 2nd for Pesce who Leafs want to make into a 1st pairing defenseman with Morgan Rielly is not even going to get you a nibble from Carolina. It will take Kapanen plus a considerable amount more to pry Pesce from the Cames.

Trade 1

To get a young good defenceman like Brodin with a cap friendly contract they will have to give up a Kapanen type prospect. Plus a Sandin and a 1st. They won't want any of those other guys.

The Wild are in win now mode and need offence.

Same with trade 2. Although Panarin will be a UFA, they will still want a ready now prospect. Gardiner is a UFA as well and the other two are way down on depth chart

Trade 3 might be the closest but Carolina are really happy with Pesce so they probably wouldn't trade him.

These trades aren't really bad but if you want to get these type of young good players, the leafs will need to give something up.

People on this site can't make their minds up. I offered 3 first round picks for parayko a while back, peopke say a gross over payment. This one offers 2 + for brodin who isn't as good as parayko and its okay lol. Or even not enough.

these trades are perfect, with the exception of Hainsey
Minnesota’s Brodin is going to be way better then Sandin, but will cost more because his cap hit is so low, that’s why Leivo, Moore (potential top 9 forwards) are there and another first rounder, both have a small cap hit, which Minnesota needs with the cap space they have left
Columbus really wants to get rid of Panarin because he wants a short term contract and he is UFA so the trade is perfect, they get Gardiner, a defencemen who can play second line defence which they need considering Columbus has top 6 defence playing top 4 defence, plus he is someone who will likely sign a long term deal, which Columbus would like very much. As for the prospects we are giving up, they are strong, Korshkov was drafted 31st overall and will probably be a top 9 if not 6 forward, while Brooks is likely going to be a top 9 forward, it seems very fair to me
And the final one, Carolina desperately need goaltending depth, Sparks is worth a lot in their category, plus you throw in Brown, a top 9 forward who will be playing 4th line on the leafs who Carolina would also enjoy for forward depth, and to top it all off a second round pick they can play around with, all to get a defence who would be stuck on their third pairing because of Faulk and Hamilton like leafs GM said and who would want a big raise in the future that Carolina won’t be able to pay for, he would be a great defensive player to play with the offensive Reilly as well, it perfect, and if u think otherwise then wow, just wow.

I think most leaf has done an admirable job here with this proposal. All the receiving teams would be hard pressed to find better offers. Each of the trading partners has an incentive to move the proposed incoming players, and in each case, we are providing them with something they need. It’s well thought out and makes a lot of sense to me.

You can tell this trade is very close in value, just because the split between those who think it is good and those who reject it is about even. It’s obviously not a lopsided trade proposal where everyone is either for against it. That’s the beauty of this site. It’s fun to post proposals and subject them to criticism and reason objectively for or against said proposal.

Well done mostleaf. I really do think you did a good job here with this proposal.

So much blue-tinted glasses.

Brooks and Korshkov are near the bottom of the Leafs prospect pool. Korshkov plays third line on a mediocre KHL team, and Brooks is a 4th liner who was propped up by strong wingers in Bracco, Marchment and Moore. You're offering Gardiner plus trash for Panarin, and since they're both UFAs, the UFA thing is fairly meaningless. I get that he said he may not resign, but Columbus was unreal two years ago, and could totally be unreal again. Why trade a guy for less value when you're probably looking at a good shot at a deep playoff run? "Lose him for nothing? " That's a trade deadline way to think when you're out of playoff contention.

And Pesce and Slavin will remain the Canes 2nd pair. They've been great together. Remember when Dougie Hamilton said he was pumped to play with a great young blue line? He wasn't talking about Faulk. P. S Pesce is under contract for the next 6ever, won't need a big raise until the distant future.

As for Brodin, seems like an overpayment. Saying out right that Sandin won't ever be as good as him with Sandin still being an 18-year old kid is a little far fetched. And offering another 1st for him, seems like mortgaging the future for a team who's going to be tight against the cap for the next decade. Draft picks are valuable to teams with expensive, high end talent.

1 No way Pesce is on second line, Faulk and Hamilton are both RD and are both ahead of him in skill, Carolina will likely look to trade him for prospects, goalie depth, and a pick
2 I’m going to remind you the KHL is not an easy league to play in, there are a lot of former NHL players (and those who still get signed by nhl teams) and would only be easy if u we’re skilled like Crosby or Matthews or something, plus Korshkov had a vey good season there especially playing on the third line, he is a very strong prospect
Brooks is also only 20 so lots of time to improve
I know Brodin looks like an overpayment but when you think about it Sandin has a way higher chance of being a bust, while Brodin is already proven, if anything the only other thing Minnesota would give us is a second round pick.

So Carolina is already looking to trade Faulk, which has been highly publicized. But if it just comes down you to thinking Faulk is better than Pesce me and feeling otherwise, the debate has no purpose.

As far as the KHL goes, if Korshkov were playing third line for SKA, CSKA or Jokerit (unlikely though since he's not Scandinavian) it would be a very different story. Nikita Gusev, Pavel Datsyuk, Valeri Nichushkin, Artemi Panarin, even Nikita Zaitsev and Igor Ozhiganov - all from SKA/ CSKA. They're for the most part where the best players come from and sign with after the NHL. Korshkov scored at 0.5 ppg this year for a second-tier KHL team, basically the same ppg as last year (last year was actually slightly better, but the difference is trivial) .
