Ok this instead
To Columbus:
Marleau, 1st, Korshkov
To Leafs:
Panarin
I hate to say it but...... we kind of need Gardiner, for now
If Reilly gets hurt then who replaces him? No way Dermott is ready, and I think we all agree Hainsey and Zaitzev would never work so Gardiner is fine. If leafs can trade him however for a LD with more years left then maybe they will be able to, but otherwise I don't see the point

Leafs made a commitment to Marleau when he signed with them over the Sharks.
I believe that commitment included a NTC.
The only team Marleau is likely to agree to be traded to is back to the Sharks so he can retire in Teal.

Columbus would definitely not be wanting Marleau. The whole reason Panarin is on the block is because he won’t sign long-term. There is no way Marleau, who will be 40 when his contract is over, will be signing long-term either. Columbus is looking for someone they can build the team around, not a short term rental compliment to their team.

If you are so worried about having a defenseman who can cover for Reilly in case of injury, then bring one in along with Panarin. It shouldn’t be that hard to replace one year of Gardiner’s services.

Maybe Panarin won't sign there long term is because Torts' contract is in the last year, Managements jobs are also up so there is no stability, and maybe in Panarins' eyes (not knowing who and what other than the logo he is signing with long term) does not feel a sense of security stepping/ skating into the unknown.
