Ottawa trades Chabot

Leafs trade Kapanen, Brooks, Bracco, 1st (2019), 2nd (2020)
Ducks trade Montour

With the need to get better right away, Ottawa can’t wait for Chabot to develop. Gardiner slots in beside Karlsson rather well.

Probably an overpayment for Montour, who only has one year of NHL experience, but is a highly rated prospect/ player. Ducks need offense, and Kapanen fills that need rather well. Brooks is reunited with former teammates Steel and Mahura, and Bracco is a very good prospect to go along with the 1st.

bruno6687 is definitely a habs fan. This trade would never happen. It shows your a habs fan because besides the lopsided of the trade, your improving the Canadiens needs over the Leafs. Toronto also lacks centermen after right handed defense. Also Toronto is in no need to make major trades, now that they’re favourites of the cup. That’s bruno6687 first post. Habs fans are a joke.

Very sorry to disappoint you by not suggesting signing DeHaan, Calvert, or Duclair. I prefer to try and be a bit more creative rather than regurgitating the same D-list trades and signings umpteen times.

For your information, as you obviously haven’t looked into it yourself, Gardiner is at present a far superior defenseman to Chabot, and will continue to be the better player for the foreseeable future. We are trading Gardiner for cost savings, rather than lose him for nothing. Senators are trying desperately to re-sign Karlsson and may be looking to sell the team. They need to improve rapidly, and Gardiner is a big step in the right direction.

The Montour trade isn’t as big an overpayment as it looks. Montour is a very highly rated prospect/ player and is already ranked higher than Manson (who you seem to think is worth Nylander) . Kapanen is 3rd line winger with potential to be top six. Bracco and Brooks will probably never make Leafs. The 1st is a given for a 1RHD. The 2nd I added as an afterthought, just to make sure the deal would get done. Kapanen is the only roster player I trade, and in return we receive a 1RHD we control for over 8 years.

If I remember correctly, you actually offered Nylander and a 1st for Montour. My package on offer here is a lot less than what you yourself suggested. I’m offering a third line winger and a couple picks and lower level prospects that won’t make the team. You offered our top line winger for the same guy. 🤡🤡🤡.

Who says Montour is rated higher than Manson? You do. so that makes it legit?
What is this obsession you have with controlling players for 8 years? Is that how nhl gms make trades? No they trade to make their team better based on where they are at roster wise.
Gardiner sucks and you know it. if we can get Chabot for him I do that trade every day but Ottawa is not in win now mode and you are fleecing them with that trade post

It’s as if he has no idea how bad the Weber contract would be in Toronto. Great Dman. Would be great to have. for a year or two. after that his contract would buckle us.

It doesn’t matter who says Montour is better than Manson. You offered up Nylander for both, so you value them the same. But since you need to know, I follow the NHL rankings on their own website. Uses a variety of different metrics to measure standings. Seems pretty close to reality as far as I can tell.
