This is, without a doubt, the site that is the most fun to share hockey ideas on.

New trade of the day:

To Buffalo: William Nylander
Garret Sparks
Jeremy Bracco
Connor Carrick
2018, 1st round pick

To Leafs: Ryan O'Rielly
Sam Rienhart

Nylander would look great with Eichel and would perhaps give his brother Alex the support and confidence to become the player that warranted a top 10 pick.

Sparks gives the questionable Sabres goal tending depth and options.

Carrick gives Sabres youth and depth on the right side D.

Bracco is a potentially high end offensive prospect for future development.

Start the debate, save the abuse!
Thanks and enjoy the day.

What would the lines look like for the leafs?

If Buffalo makes this trade it would be because they are dumping O’Reilly’s contract.

Personally, I think O’Rellly is way overpaid, and a real pussy considering how big he is. He is consistent at putting up the numbers, so you can’t count on him to produce. Seems he nets right around 20 goals and 60 points a year. Which is just about the exact same as Nylander. But you are going to have to pay for it. $7.5M a year is probably significantly more than Nylander will be making. And, similar to Nylander, O’ Reilly’s focus on procuctiom comes at a cost to defensive. He is a liability in his own end. I would rather have Nylander, who will be around a lot longer and for cheaper. Buffalo wins this part of the trade.

Reinhardt is looking more and more to be living up to the expectations placed on him when he was drafted. The rest of the Leafs consist of a bunch of spare parts (Carrick, Sparks, Bracco, 1st) . All good players who we don’t have room for and will likely see playing time in Buffalo. It’s not exactly Leaf garbage for Buffalo gold, but it’s pretty close. Leafs win this part of the trade.

In the end, I would not make this trade. Without knowing how much Reinhardt is going to be signing for makes guess work necessary. Assuming he signs for $5.5M, then that means after you add in O’Reilly’s $7.5, that’s a total of $13M big ones for these two players. I would rather sign Tavares or Doughty or someone who is a real superstar at their position than bring in these guys.

It’s a pretty good proposal floated here, and one that’s both teams would need to consider seriously. A rebuilding BUffalo team would be receiving large numbers of assets, some of who are very high quality. Leafs bring in a couple very effective players, though at high cost to salary cap. May impede ability to re-sign other key team members or bring in free agents.

*can* count on O’Reilly for production (20G, 60Pts)

That was a typo in my previous post. Not sure why it keeps doing that. Screws up the whole meaning of my sentence big time. Just read in context and it becomes apparent what I mean.

I feel like that 3rd line will be deadly.

DID YOU REALLY JUST SAY O'REILLY IS A LIABILITY IN HIS OWN END?!?! Shows how much you know.

That is ridiculous. With what the Leafs are giving up in this proposed trade, I would expect all of that. Eichel and Ristolainen.
