Leafs need to add size. Couple depth moves and signings just for that reason.

Leafs trade Gardiner, Lievo
Devils trade 1st
(Gardiner has contract in place first)

Leafs trade 3rd, Carrick
Penguins trade Oleksiak

Sign Maroon, Sustr, Schenn, Vanek
(Maroon gets 2-3 years, everyone else gets 1 year)

Leafs lineups next year

Hyman/ Matthews/ Nylander
Maroon/ Kadri/ Marner
Johnsson/ Marleau/ Kapanen
Vanek/ Lindholm/ Brown
* (Martin)

Rielly/ Hainsey
Dermott/ Zaitsev
Oleksiak/ Schenn
*Sustr, Holl

Andersen
McBackup

*Leafs draft Lundestrom (17th), Samuelsson (25th)

*I put Marleau at center for now because of experience and speed factor would fit nice with Johnsson/ Kapanen, but can easily switch positions with Nylander when he’s ready for center.

We have to get rid of Hainsey he cannot play another year with Rielly that ended terribly last year.
At least sign Mike Green in free agency and get rid of Hainsey or Robidas him.

Get rid of our Stanley cup winning veteran defenseman, who happens to be the only defenseman on the team that can actually play defense? Why would we do that?

Because he is too old, you have guys like Zaitsev and Gardiner for a good top 4 paring d and Dermott and Carrick who can play in your top 6 d, i agree with that. Hainsey altough he has won a cup is basically done with his career, he is good on the pk ill give u that, but if the leafs want to improve their defence any time soon then you can't have a 36, 37 year old left defence playing on the right side of your top d line, it is just idiotic and it will result in Freddy having to stop 50 shots again per night.

Hainsey was not the problem last year, you are a fool

He played every minute short handed in post season . never came off the ice . Was used poorly

Most of leafs issues this past season were either;

1) Gardiner (you all know how I feel about her)

2) poor coaching (I like babs but made some poor calls . maybe he was held hostage by Lou, we don’t know the way it all trickles down )

Playing Gardiner 14 / 20 minutes in third period game 7 . playing Hainsey 27:51 / 30 short handed minutes . too much for an old guy . should have played Martin 4th line, maybe 5 minutes a game, but a HARD 5 minutes .

You do the above, leafs beat Boston in 6, would have smashed TB (they stink) and who knows about Washington . probably still would have lost to Washington .

Let’s see what they can do to better set themselves up for 2018/ 2019

Tell me you agree . thanks.

Hainsey has one year left on his contract and is placefiller until Liljegren is ready. He has an excellent year last year, and is cheap. Gardiner and Zaitsev are already top 4 defensemen on the team. They make up the second line. Hainsey is far superior to Carrick. Else why would Carrick be sitting in the press box while Hainsey played over 20 minutes a game? Just because he is old, doesn’t mean he is not good.

I fully agree with you blizzard. You couldn’t have said it better.

Are u kidding me, so all of a sudden Gardiner has one bad game and everyone wants to get rid of him, wow that’s messed up
Ur also saying to play Martin over someone like Komarov or Johnson after Martin basically didn’t play the second half of the season, that’s dumb
And I’m not saying Hainsey was the problem last year I’m saying leaf should have only signed him to 1 year because now he will be a problem this year, he is too old and won’t be able to keep up playing on the top defensive line.

Gardiner has more than one bad game. Game 7 was just the cherry on top. We need to trade Gardiner because he is UFA end of next year and we can get substantial assets in return for him right now.

Hainsey is a stud. I really don’t think he’s going to fall off a cliff next year. Hainsey covered for many of Reilky’s mistakes, and if Gardiner has Hainsey as his defense partner last year, the argument to keep Gardiner and trade Reilly could easily be going the other way right now.

Hainsey was used as a workhorse last year. If his play is impacted towards the end of the year, we should have Liljegren on the team by then. It would do them both a lot of good to reduce Hainsey’s time and increase Liljegren’s.

As his trade value isn’t very high, and he plays a much needed role on the team, I expect Hainsey will finish the year with the Leafs. After Hainsey’s contract is up, I wouldn’t be surprised if he re-signs to a 1 year deal to play on the third line or be our seventh defenseman. He’s far better than Polak.

Omg now your saying Hainsey is better then Gardiner, you are not using your head, ITS CALLED A CONTRACT EXTENSION, Gardiner will be cheep because of his off-season so you can keep him around for a while because if you give him a contract extension this summer then. He will be cheaper than if you wait and trade and bring in someone more expensive
You are being wayyyyy to hard on Gardiner
If you really want to keep Hainsey than put him on the last line RD and trade or keep Carrick as your 7th d.

Gardiner is a bad defensive defenseman . That’s the reality of his skill set and ability
He does not skate well backwards, is not physical and doesn’t have great hockey sense

Should have been a winger

Could easily be a 3rd or 4th line winger in the NHL.
