I would literally rather have all the assets you want to trade than the returns. Carlson is going to be this years highest paid (second highest paid) free agent and next years biggest bust. Calvert would be a nice add. I’ll give you that.

I think you made the right choice in targeting Detroit as a team that will be looking to make some changes this year. And I like your choice in Larkin. He’s a very fast skater and would be a great fit between Johnsson and Kapanen. It would almost certainly be the fastest line in the league. But I think you are way overpaying here. Considering Detroit traded Tatar for a lot less, I’m sure we could acquire Tatar for a similar package of picks (1st, 2nd, 3rd), without having to give them our best defensive prospect or s roster player in Hainsey (who incidentally is a very good player) .

As for the Hamilton trade, again, I think you are giving up too much. Hamilton is a great player, and I would love to have him on the team. But considering Flames only traded a 1st and two 2nd’s for him, I again think Hamilton could be had for less than Nylander. Maybe the same trade, but Kapanen instead of Nylander is more appropriate, though I wonder if it may be possible to obtain him for a similar package of picks (1st, 2x2nd) so we wouldn’t lose a roster player.
