Leafs sign John Carlson 7 for 7 years, if Carlson unavailable sign Mike Green

Apparently Oilers are willing to trade the 10th overall pick for a blueliner and Gardiner had over 50 points last year. Leafs replace Gardiner with Carlson and move up 15 spots in the draft to take Jesperi Kotkaniemi who is labeled as a similar player to Kopitar or Toews.

I would do this. The evaluation is pretty fair. Only difficulty is Oiler’s cap situation. If Edmonton is really looking for a defenseman, they will have to move someone themselves.

I’m in favour of this deal. I like the idea of the Leafs flipping Gardiner for a high pick and for a player that would address a need at centre.
