Leafs sign and trade JVR

New Jersey 3rd round pic

Blizzard

It's amazing how the series became less physical as it went along. All pressure is on Bruins now.
Matthews needs a game of his life maybe the Bergeron line has Tim tied up in knots

JVR for a 3rd rounder? That sounds GREAT!
I find it funny how if it's the Leafs trading for whoever it's half the roster and a high draft pick but if the Leafs trade one of there top players they're only worth a 3rd round pick. Jvr's value instantly goes WAY up after he's resigned. Come on now Mackin! Smh.

Puck it

It's a sign and trade just helping bring Jvr 8 th year and New Jersey want him b4 July 1. That's what the deal would be I don't think leafs could get more that that.

Marner and kucherov are very comparable in size and kucherov at 21 years of age posted 66 pts. Marner at 20 years old has posted 69 points.

I think we all get frustrated and die a bit inside when leafs don't do well but the truth is Leafs are very young. This season worse case the leafs pushed Boston to 7 games. Last year a weaker Washington team beat Leafs in 6 games.

So we I do see improvement from last year. We can only expect more nest season as Marner is never going to struggle again like he did at start of this season.

I make my prediction early for next season. Leafs will win division next year and get 8 th seed. Too many leafs are just too good 😊 and their improvements will start happening in a big way year to year.

Look at Matthews struggle against Bergeron this is 20 year old kid going against a 32 year old. The strength disadvantage in that match up is large. 2 more seasons Matthews so much stronger. Time is on the leafs side and Toronto has prospects coming out of the woodwork.

Cheers go leafs go.

I think the new playoff format is a bit unfair as well. Using the old format, we would have been faced with Pittsburgh, I know, but at least it would have been a lower seeded team. In which case, instead of Pittsburgh, it could have been any other of the lower contenders. Facing a higher seeded team at the start of the playoffs is discouraging, no matter how good your regular season was, you’re still considered the underdog.

Leafs did amazing this series. If we win, Leafs can consider themselves contenders just as much as any other team.

LeafsGM

You are so right even going seed 1 to seed 8 its east the travel wouldn't be so bad. But I would prefer seed 1 seed 16. Your losing two teams out of three of Boston Tampa Toronto in first 2 rounds. That's 2 teams out of top 6 in the league .

They could also reseed teams after each round but it don't happen. What are you feeling about tomorrow night buddy. I'm contented they have taken Boston 7 games but I really want to win and see more Leaf hockey. Marner what he becomes is going to be amazing to watch.

Format is stupid, but assuming leafs win game 7 tomorrow (and they will. almost certainly) they play Tampa

I love Washington Pitt series . they should play each other . philly Pitt, good rivalry, Toronto Boston,
Good rivalry . Tampa NJ sucked a bit . but hey can’t all be great series

I think if leafs played Tampa in first round, leafs would have won in 5

Tampa stinks . goalie is like Holtby . Had a good regular season but played way over his head and now everyone thinks he is the best goalie ever

Stamps is average post-injury .

Mackin, series is less physical because Boston is old and tired . still, it’s the cheap shots I’m worried about more than the physical in game play

How does backed elbow Andersen and no suspension? Refs are brutal . there was a play 2 games ago when Boston players stick got stuck in leafs skate . ref almost didn’t call it, took him an extra look before calling it .

Brutal . NHL is losing it.

No one will sign JVR for 8 years. JVR will either resign with Toronto at yet to be to be a determined deal or he goes to what looks like to be the more obvious. another team, but I doubt any team will commit long term?
Go Leafs.

A loss now would make the last couple victories just seem bittersweet. Boston is going to be coming in strong and hard. Heavy hitting and staying on the body. Leafs will need to dip deep into their bag of tricks to hold Boston off. If Leafs win next game, it will feel the same as winning the Stanley Cup for Leafs nation. Lol. It’s been a lot nug time since we’ve gotten out of first round playoffs.

That JVR trade is brutal. If NJ wants us to do them a favour and sign JVR first before trading him, they can cough up a 1st round pick, not some crappy 3rd rounder.

According to your most recent trade proposals, if we throw Gardiner into the JVR trade, we can kill two birds with one stone:

Toronto trades JVR, Gardiner
NJ trades 1st, 3rd

I’m afraid Leafs are going to have to pass on this one.

If we do NJ the favour of signing JVR first, the least they can do is give us a better return than 3rd round pick.

Sing and trade does not happen very often and JVR will not get 8 years.

Teams get competitive want a guy then common sense goes out window. Leafs example of this was David Clarkson And Matt Martin i'm betting JVR gets 8 years. We will see.

Sign and trades are always a risk. If Toronto signs JVR to terms the Receiving team is against, they can still back out of the deal and Toronto gets stuck with JVR. If we sign JVR, it should be on our terms, and with the intent to keep him.

Heaven forbid we get stuck with a consistent 30 goal scorer whose one of the best in the league in front of the net.

Sign and keep JVR. 6 year @ 6 million.

The leafs have not been able to cycle the puck in the offensive zone at 5v5 very well all year. We dump, chase and frequently lose battles for the puck, then it’s cleared and we are unable to maintain possession after renentry. Scoring chance the other way. We only won during the regular season because we are offensively talented enough to score a lot off the rush and due to Andersen’s strong play for most of the season. This playoff series has highlighted our inability to maintain possession.

Marner showed obvious progression on both sides of the puck this season and 7 playoff games. Matthews showed improvement as far as PPG goes but his play through the neutral zone has been subpar most of the time with moments of brilliance. This has to change. Sometimes it feels like someone breathes too heavily on him and he fumbles the puck. Nylander however was terrific through the neutral zone all season. His PPG improved but not to the level it should have - he was incredibly unlucky for the first 20 games or so. He did kind of disappear in the playoffs though. Rielly has transformed into the 1b I always knew he would but, earlier than I thought. I think that at this time next season we won’t be asking for a true #1 because we will have one in him. Our RHD situation does need to change though because Hainsey is getting older, Polak may not be serviceable for much longer and Zaitsev has looked terrible this season. I do anticipate growth from him but I’m now questioning if he’ll ever become more than an average 4d. He will be very over paid with any more regression. I’ll be curious to see Borgman next year.

My point is that the Leafs will learn to cycle the puck. When this happen there’s not many people I’d rather have in front of the net than JVR.

Sorry for rambling I’m still pretty P’d off about tonight’s loss. I’ve never hated Jake Gardiner as much as I do right now.
