Possible moves this summer.

Vancouver - Tanev
Tanev has 2 years at around $4m

Tor - Gardiner + pick

Gardiner has 1 year at $4.5m and could be flipped at the trade deadline by vancouver for a picks in the next draft or prospects.

Then Leafs go after John Carlson in free agency.

I like it. I could see Gardiner being flipped straight across for Tanev since Gardiner is coming off of a career high in points.

Then, signing Carlson is another good move. That dcore looks very potent, and can be made if we aleviate the cap taken by JVR, Bozak and Leo.

One issue I have (not with your post, but in general, if we decide to let Bozak walk) is 3C. Miro Aaltonen, imo, is not ready, and Willys better on the wing. My idea is to add a guy like Calle Jarnrok for a 2nd Round Pick and a prospect like Andrew Nielsen, as Nashville has centre depth of Johansen/ Turris/ Bonino/ Sissons, and Jarnkrok is wasted on the fourth line.

Still, i like your ideas.

I think Vancouver would get more trading Tanev for picks/ prospects than trading Gardiner for picks/ prospects. So we would have to give them enough that they come out ahead after trading Gardiner. A low pick might not be enough incentive. A prospect or even another player such as Lievo or Carrick to go along with Gardiner night work.

Carlson is by far the best UFA on defense available this year. He will not come cheap. If we brought in Tanev and Carlson, we would have 5 defensemen signed at between $4.5-$6.5M, depending on what we pay Carlson. It means we would have to trade Zaitsev basically. He wouldn’t be needed anymore anyway.
