Gardiner and Hainsey aren't going anywhere. Faulk isn't the type of player we really need, especially when the asking price would Probably be too much. And it's funny to see that you're saying Neilsen is taking a step back because early in the year you told me he's ahead of Dermott. I also don't think Holl will be a permanent NHLer anymore. he's 26, he's no longer a prospect.

Nielsen is still very young. He was selected in the same draft as Marner, Dermott and Bracco, lest we forget. And defensemen can take a while to develop. Considering Nielsen's low value right now, I think it makes more sense to keep him on the Marlies for at least another season and see what happens.

Looking at hainsey’s numbers since he left Carolina, one has to conclude that it’s the Carolina system, and not the individual players, that is resulting in such poor numbers among the defensemen. Given the results with Hainsey, it’s entirely possible that a trade for Faulk, or any other Carolina defense, will yield a better +/ - than what we are currently seeing.

Given the choice between keeping either Gardiner or Hainsey, I got to stick with Gards. He has quietly put together two very good years in a row, and is arguably our best defenseman.

I think now that Rielly has matched him in points there’s no denying he’s the better player. He’s better on D, younger, smarter and has as many points as Gards in less games and less PP times.

Leafs in 6. Rielly puts together a 7 point performance.
