I had a dream

Leafs trade brown Hyman

Pics prospects whatever

So at this point you have no one playing beside Matthews as I had Hyman and Brown on first line

The only three trade chips Toronto could have is Gardiner brown Hyman

Leafs have tons off money they can target two players In that are physical and have skill

Who. Mathews who
Marleau kadri marner
Johnson Nylander Kapanan
Leivo. Aaltonon Grundstrom

You can either trade for a forward and sign other as UFA this way your replacing Brown and Hyman with impact players which Broen and Hyman will next be

I don't see Hama and brown playing on forth live they just are everyday player. I want nasty piece of work like Gallagher in Montreal skill but nasty.

We have to ask ourselves in order to make leafs better who has to come out of lineup

I'm basing this on two forward free agents or one forward trade one UFA

Hyman Matthews brown
Marleau kadri marner
Johnson Nylander Kapanan
Leivo Aantonon Gorundstrom

You can't put brown and Hyman on forth line

Guys help me here we want two mid to late 20s UFA forwards with grit and skill who goes out.

If we do this, then who’s going to play for the Marlies?

I doubt any of Johnsson, Aaltonen, Grundstrom are ready to make the team full time. Kapanen just squeezed in this year.

You are wanting to sign two first line wingers, that sounds expensive. We already have a couple top line wingers. You just have them slotted wrong.

Nylander is better off on the wing with Matthews and bring in a third line center or re-sign Bozak. Would be a lot cheaper.

As for your other top line winger, what’s wrong with Marleau, Marner, or even Kapanen. Then you just have to bring in a bottom six winger, of which there should be many available at reasonable price.

Brown and hyman are good and cheap. If you want to replace them for someone on your top line, that will get expensive fast.

Not that I'm a Din Cherry fan but he once said every year you have to add.

We know Matthews marner are beyond spectacular and not even screlathibv the surface yes .

Babcock had said kohnson is penciled in next year . i also understand pencil Isn't ink

This group by itself will just get better as they are so young . but with so much cap money available this offseason we can bet they are going to shop. Look bargains or whatever but they will add

Buying JVR or Bozak doesn't really change anything Bozak 32 and the next deal for JVR will be 3 or 4 years of good play then a decline. So pointless to even consider bringing him back

Trying to look players 25 years to 27 years that have a lot of nasty and skill in their blood. But summer will be fun seeing what they do next. The next step will be I big one. Hickey time let's beat Florida cheers.

Today in D-Mack's nonsensical ramblings:

Hey -- let's trade two cheap, cost-controlled forwards who fit perfectly in Babcock's system for some expensive UFA's with no regard for what that will do to the Leafs cap situation moving forward despite the fact the Leafs have no problem scoring goals.

Yeah let's go get Gallagher! He's got grit. Just saying it makes the Leafs sound tougher already. Grrrrrrr. It.

Mackin

I really don’t understand this proposal. You are asking for two young skilled wingers who are cheap to replace . two young skilled wingers who are cheap?!?

More guys next year head to marlies no worries on that

Marner like 31 points in 21 games I may have it off a little but I think that's it

Marner = kucherov.

Johnsson is definitely ready to play full time next year.

Man, what is this? You wanna go ahead and overpay old farts in free agency for no reason when we have cost controlled talent in Brown and Hyman righr now? Why are you on?

FT4A stinks

Right now after leafs sign nylander and other RFAs they are sitting at 50 million for next year that's assuming nylander gets 6 million

End next season they have 8 million coming off books Hainsey and Gardiner

When has a leaf team not spent to near cap which means they have 20 to 25 million this year more to spend. Players are coming in 4 sure maybe short deals but players are coming in.

Next year they are going to need 19 million for marner and Matthews - 8 million for Gardiner and hainsey

They need 11 million in extra cap space and we can assume cap will rise 2019-20 season let's say 85 million

So this year leafs have some money to spend.

D-Mack,

Assuming Nylander is signed for around $6 mln the leafs will have roughly $52 mln committed next year. But only to 17 players, 6 short of the 23 man roster. They have sufficient cap room to fill those holes, but this is not "$20-$25 mln more to spend" as if we already had a full roster.

The next season (2019-2020) as you astutely pointed out, Marner and Matthews will be hitting pay dirt, probably in the ball park of what you outlined above. Let's take a look at what we would have committed at that point:

Matthews: $11 mln
Marner: $8 mln
Nylander: $6 mln
Marleau: $6.25 mln
Kadri: $4.5 mln
Rielly: $5.0 mln
Zaitsev: $4.5 mln
Andersen: $5 mln
Kessel retention: $1.2 mln

That's just under $51.5 mln -- on 8 players. FIFTEEN players short of the 23 man roster. Even if the cap goes to $85 mln (which is probably aggressive), that leaves $33.5 mln to sign 15 players -- roughly $2.2 mln per player.

Now, granted, we will have some players like Dermott, and maybe Liljegren and another Marlie or two playing on entry level contracts for less than $1 mln at that point which helps. But on average, those other 15 players will have to make $2.2 mln a season, tops.

If only there was a way to help fill out a roster with effective players that fit into the system at that price.

OH WAIT--THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE PAYING BROWN ($2.1 mln) AND HYMAN ($2.25 mln) .

But no, let's go fill those roles with impact UFA players that will cost 3 times as much--who needs a fourth line and 3rd d-pairing anyways, am I right?

One last time David: the Leafs are in great shape from a cap perspective right now. There is arguably not a bad contract on the team. But it's the cap era, and with big pay days coming for the 3 amigos, the Leafs are going to have to be very clever and conervative with signings to remain flexible. Any extra dollars laying around should be spent on shoring up the defence. Trading cost effective role players like Brown and Hyman and filling their spots with expensive UFA's is about the dumbest thing they could do from a cap perspective, especially when this team does not have a goal scoring problem.

End rant.
