I don't see the Leafs making themselves worse by trading JVR but nothing is impossible. He's 10th on the team with minutes played and plays sheltered minutes at that. He's a defensive liability on the ice and rarely seen in the last period during a close game.

On the other hand he's a tough number to replace (25 goals and counting) .

I could almost see the Pittsburgh trade happening if it wasn’t for the fact the Leafs are in need of a centerman themselves.

You are getting rid of Bozak and JVR both, and receiving nobody useful back. Are we going to replace JVR with Lievo? And who’s going to replace Bozak when we are already looking for an extra centerman ourselves. The value seems about right with a 1st round pick coming back, but we need at least one player who can contribute immediately in return as well.
