San Jose needs a top-six forward for the playoff push. Leafs need to shed contracts and shore up cap space for 2018 offseason to make room for free agents and prospects.

This trade concept is tricky right now seeing that Los Angeles Kings are currently in a playoff spot. But if they were looking to reduce cap space and gain a prospect along with a top four d-man this could be a viable option. Leafs really do need to enhance there d-core for taking on the likes of Boston in the first round. I would also like to see Justin Holl get more playing time as he plays very well for a big man and compliments Dermott nicely on the third line.

1st Deal:
JVR alone is worth that return. You are exchanging 2nd rounders separated by a year for no reason. The picks will not be apart that much to make it worthwhile.

2nd Deal:

Doughty is a free agent in 2019. Sign him then. No team needs to give up that much for a 2 year rental.

You are overpaying in the first deal, and not paying enough in the second deal.

Like Lab16 said, JVR alone is worth the return on the first deal. As far as the second deal goes, LA will definitely not want Polak. Gardiner is a far cry from Doughty’s level, and throwing in a fringe player like Lievo does little to help the Kings offensively. As such, you would definitely need to give them a higher pick than a third as well. Maybe even a second first. Gardiner, Lievo. Brooks, a 1st, and a conditional second 1st if Doughty re-signs, else a 2nd. That would probably get the deal done. It sounds like a lot, but we are talking about maybe the best defenseman in the world. Adding Doughty would make us instant contenders.
