That's go back to when both Reilly and zaitsev were in lineup. Dec 15 Gardiner plus 21 min zaitsev pups 20 min.

Let's face it, Gardiner is not a good fit in Toronto anymore. Reilly and Zaitsev are ready to replace Gardiner in terms of offensive production. The Leafs need a couple of defensemen with grit who can skate, hit and steer opposition players away from the crease.

Not sure what to say about this

It’s pretty clear to me by watching each and every play they Gardiner is not a positive impact player defensively .

I’m not asking what you think, I’m pointing it out because sometimes i feel like I’m on another planet and no one sees this . he can barely skate backwards . When he has to turn around from skating forward to backward he often stumbles or falls .

Anyone who says he is a good defenseman is clearly
Just checking stats and not watching the games .

He may get away with making a mistake and the opposition doesn’t score . but the mistake is made and the scoring chance is created

These add up over time

Please respond to the specifics of my point, don’t take it in a different direction .

Gardiner = poor defenseman .

Nice guy . but we don’t win by having the nicest team

It's time to trade Gardiner for cap reasons, and return value. The Leafs already have many replacements for him.

But not because you or others think he's a bad Dman defensively.

Nobody is calling him Chris Pronger; but he's no Pylon. If he was that bad D wise; he'd have already been traded or released.

While everyone was singing his praises 5 years ago; nobody complained about his defense. Yet, he made the same mistakes more often back then. Leafs fans were just happy to get a Dman who could skate and pass compared to what was there then.

Last year he was the 17th best Dman Offensively with a plus 24. Those are facts accumulated over the course of a season, not your entirely subjective "blabber" about him not being able to skate. The other Dmen are making the same mistakes.

No doubt he is an offensive Dman, and average on the defensive side, but we've all known that since he got here. He's always been a light weight on the boards since he got here also; but then, so are so many others like Karlsson, Vatanen, and more. OEL is currently the worst Dman in the league this year (clearly wants to be traded) .

For every Gardiner, there are many, many, more defensive/ no offense whatsoever Dmen that make you not "cringe", but want to throw up, because they can't pass, skate, score, start a play, effectively move the puck out of the zone, or withhold their emotions long enough to not put their team in a penalty situation.

They fight, take runs at people, and just cripple the offense at every turn. That's far worse than a few brain farts defensively.

Fortunately, those players are being weeded out of the game and replaced with players that have talent, "offensive talent", that don't just dump the puck out of the D zone, and can do a lot better than just dump the puck in on offense.

He'll be gone soon enough; cap considerations will dictate that. Maybe even this year, while his return value is at the highest. But not for the "other planet" reasons you allude to.

He will get a 6-7M 6 year deal, easily, in free agency. Bank on it.

He can skate. forward. However you put your positive twist on Gardiner. it's still tough to watch him make rookie mistakes. often.

Trade JVR to Carolina for McKeown and a first. Then trade bozak, Carrick and our first to the devil's for sverson. Then our defense is Reilly - sverson, hainsey-zaitsev, borgman-dermott. Lievo and aaltonen come into the lineup to replace bozak and jvr.

Sorry Gardiner would also be in the deal for sverson then you either keep Carrick as the 7th dman or he's the final piece to make the deal happen.

Blizzard. that was hard to read.

I am not one to sing Gardiners praises but of all the things to pick apart about him you pick skating. That’s probably one of his strongest attributes. Count how many times in a game he carries the puck from the D zone, through neutral zone and either makes a nice first pass or dump in.

He’s a top 4 and fits onto the pp on any team.

I just hope we bring back a better defensive dman by adding some future when he’s traded.

Gardiner is a very good player no doubt.

He does the same move in the leafs end .
Turns to his backhand and it I can see it you can bet the nhl players scout this stuff. Jake is way to predictable. What gets me about Gartiner is he is so good at skating and could be that guy to get them out of there end but for what ever reason he turns back and panics and bang puck in torontos net.

Now Borgman is looking more like gartiner. Thank God they have Demot.
