While Vatanen is not OEL, he didn't go for very much.

OEL's value is lower than you would think, because he's on a very bad team.

Gardiner and a 1st would be the limit. Anything more would be an over payment.

I looked into OEL's play in detail. I take the above back.

The Leafs shouldn't even bother with the currently worst Dman in the NHL. Pylon is doing way better at 13 pts and only -4. Gardiner is way better at only 1 point behind and only -2.

+/ - isn't a great indicator of a lot of things; but when it's consistently bad, it's a harbinger of failure.

Take a look at his record, then tell me why you want to trade for a Dman that can't play defence. And he's currently paired with a good Dman, Hjalmarsson at -2.

We don't need a worse Jake Gardiner.
