If the Kings try to sign Doughty, but term and money are an issue, the Leafs could look to pry him away.

Doughty will have 1 more year at $7MM left, then likely seeking a deal in the $8.5 - $9M range.

To LAK: D - J. Gardiner + D - A. Nielsen + F - A. Johnsson + 2018 1st round pick + 2019 2nd round pick

To TOR: D - D. Doughty

I'm all for the Leafs exploring all options for upgrading their defence but that’s quite the price for one year remaining on Doughty. Would be nicer if they could negotiate a new deal for Doughty and then make the trade.

It is a big package, but I think the Leafs would only make the deal if they feel they will sign him.

Could make the 2nd round pick conditional he signs?
