Avs get:

Jake Gardiner, Connor Carrick, Josh Leivo, Leafs 2nd Rd Pick 2018

Leafs get:

Erik Johnson

Reilly-Hainsey
Borgman-Zaitsev
Dermott-Johnson

(Borgman w/ Polak until Zaitsev comes back, but ideally make this trade when Zaitsev is healthy and Colorado is firmly out of playoff contention)

Colorado gets three players who can play in the NHL right now, and none of which is a UFA plus a high ish pick in a loaded entry draft.

Leafs get a top-4 defensively-responsible RHD who can kill penalties and move the puck pretty well.

Granted Johnson's contract may start to look inflated in a couple years, but his PK and ability to play in his own zone shouldn't diminish, and buy then Liljegren should be up in the NHL and be able to provide tons of offense on the PP and paired with whomever.

Plus Babsocks gets his wish and never has to play Carrick again, and we all get our wish and never have to see Gards in a buds uniform again.

A little too much from Leafs, I think?

Interesting trade proposal I haven't thought of. I think Erik Johnson would be great to have. Good trade.

Yeah I thought I might be giving up a lot, but you got to pay up for top end talent, and none of those guys really look like long-term leafs so if both teams feel like they benefit then that sort of makes it a fair trade.

I'm guessing that the Av's will want to upgrade that 2nd to a 1st. But they also might want to get rid of his contract, which isn't too high, but runs to 2023.

The Av's are also light on talent on the LHS. So it solves a problem for them as well.

For the Leafs, it helps the defensive part of their RHD problem, but here's hoping Liljegren solves the offense part.

Good deal, balanced.
