Anaheim need offense as of right now. I still feel as if they think they're contenders. JVR would bring a goal scoring touch which is exactly what they need. They'll also be able to resign him if they'd like.

TOR: JVR, Carrick, 2nd round in 2018
ANA: Josh Manson.

I think the leafs will resign JVR, he's having a great year thus far and if the Leafs want to play deeper into the playoffs he'll be an integral part of that.

Leafs can either resign JVR or spend more on the D core. They simply cannot afford to do both and also sign Matthews, Nylander and Marner to long term deals. There is just not enough to go around in a cap world. Personally, I would rather them spend it on the Defense. JVR is awesome but the Leafs have a bevvy of talent on the wing, both already in the NHL and in the pipeline. Not nearly as much depth on D. I would trade JVR to the highest bidder, either as part of a package for defensive help (as the above trade suggested) or for picks/ prospects that could be packaged for defensive help.

Would love to see this trade and what Manson brings to the Leafs; hits, fights, size, clears the front of the net, lugs the puck, just entering his prime and can score. Those are also the reasons I think it is unlikely the Ducks part with him, even for that package. I would make the 2nd conditional on JVR resigning.

With Salary cap for next year rising to 80 MM and as high as $82 MM, the Leafs can afford another DMan at $4 MM plus extending JVR for 6 years at $5.75 MM a year and remain under the cap without trading Marleau and Martin.

Also, a bridge contract is Nylander's future 2 years at 4.75 MM with Nylander extending for his 8 years 7 MM at the end of two years.

This allows the Leafs to achieve a higher salary defenseman.
