An interesting trade idea heatdreamer. I’m curious why the Leafs would be interested in giving up so many pieces for this guy? As well, if the Leafs really wanted to do a trade like this, maybe they could involve a third party such as Ottawa did when they acquired Duchene? Maybe that would lessen the number of assets they’d have to surrender in a deal for Landedkog?

I like Landeskog, he's 24, his price is nice (5.6M cap hit until 20/ 21), and he looks to be back on track after a bad year.

However he only has 4 years and the Avalanche are just starting the rebuild now. Next year he starts his NTC; so better for Sakic to trade him now while he has no restrictions and get more picks for the rebuild.

Sakic will be looking for more picks/ prospects than older players now that he is in rebuild mode, and he has cap space and contracts to bargain with.

I would suggest:
TOR: 1st 2020, 3rd 2018, Bozak, Dermott, Leivo, T. Moore (6M approx)

COL: Landeskog, JT Compher, 2nd 2018. ( 6.5 M approx)

The first to COL can be any year but it's better for Sakic to hedge the bet; he's just starting the rebuild. It's also better for the Leafs as they are about to exit the rebuild stage in a year. (I say the Leafs rebuild started with Reilly in 2012)

Getting Landeskog allows us to move JVR, and still keeps us competitive on that side.

JT Compher projects to be a pretty decent 2nd line center and might partner well with Marner. The Av's have Tyson Jost coming along nicely and can afford to move JT.

The Leafs are just giving up excess here with the exception of the picks. The Av's are moving a player who doesn't fit the future as JVR didn't when he was 26. Not that it couldn't work out, but, just that the time frame of the rebuild, wastes his most productive years.

Landeskog will have 5 years+ of his prime with the Leafs, a team who will be dominant during that time.

JVR's price will move him out of the picture even if he can play 5 more years and be effective.

Instead of JVR, let's talk about starting the discussion around Gardiner and possibly Kadri along with Nielsen and a 1st Rd pick in 2018 for Landeskog.

Landeskog Matthews Nylander
JVR Marner Brown
Hyman Marleau Kapenen
Martin Moore Komarov.
